So the girlfriends brother and dad play regularly and have been asking me to get in to it for a while.

Due to a friend of her dads badly damaging his wrist after a fall, he was told not to play again so I got a full set of clubs, a bag, a trolley, a pair of shoes, some waterproofs, loads of balls and hundereds if teas for £150.

I have been to the driving range 3 times over the past few weeks and played my first round this morning.

So my first game I lost quite a few balls and only scored 14 points. As they were all scoring back end of 30 and in to 40's I know it is abysmal but you have to start somewhere.

No purpose of this thread really but any tips for a newbie are welcome.

1. Get half a dozen lessons - the correct grip, stance etc will make a major difference

2. Concentrate on your putting if you want to bring your scores down - 'drive for show, putt for dough ' etc

3. Don't try & whack the ball as far as you can ! - a controlled 3/4 swing stands more chance of the ball going roughly where you want

4. Enjoy it ! - a bad days golf is always better than a good days work !

Thanks.

Everything bar tip 4 is what they all said.

I do plan on gettig some lessons before I start developing bad habits. Everyone I know that plays all wish they did.
