A lot of it stems from their idiotic decision to ban gambling on sport - for so called moral and religious reasons. At least over here unusual betting patterns are spotted straight away and reported by the bookies whereas given the illegal nature of bookmaking in India (and Dubai where many of the Indian bookies work out of) it's impossible for the authorities to be made aware of such patterns.

Cricket is also run by politicians in India (their PM, their finance minister, countless other politicians are all members of their version of the ECB).

Cricket stinks in India - the only thing which makes me think corruption at the top level of cricket there is less than it was say 15 or 20 years ago is that their international players are legitimately paid millions if not tens of millions of $s a year so it's a lot less appealing to take 100k here or there to throw a match.
