Fishing - Azores/Ascension/Cape Verde - any experience?
Discussion
I ended a 10 year hunt for a blue marlin in the Cape Verde islands where I caught 4 in a day up to 600 lbs. the best fishing is from Sao Vicente island which is a mild pain to get to but it is by far the best place I've been for marlin.
There were only about 4 boats at the time but I went with one called happy hooker (captain was berno something) but I think they all caught reasonably consistently.
If you do decide to go, don't be swayed by adverts from other islands as they are nothing like as good for game fish

BSR , Is the fishing there consistent all year round, or is there a best time to go?
Just had a mooch around th CV fishing sites and it seems to say:-The season usually starts in March and ends around October/November, with some empty periods due to the temperature variations.
I had to give up with Ascension because the condition of the 'entry visa' is that you have insurance to cover evacuation from the island in the event of a medical emergency
I have mild haemophilia but recently had the 'nosebleed from hell' inc 3 days in hospital which needed approx £5K of factor to stop the bleed - it was so bad blood was pouring from one eye
insurance is virtually impossible
in fact insurance overall is looking very difficult if outside the 'first world' in my case
I had planned a world tour including Namibia/South Africa/Costa Rica/Panama - seems its not going to be possible
best look at NZ/Aus?

Well, sort of European are the ABC Islands. I used to fish around there for years, even flyfishing for white marlin.
