Another year of golf ahead!
I'm currently a 17 handicap player (although recently I've actually played to 15 and for 9 holes to 13).
Therefore, my golfing goal for this year is to get down to 15, if not less.
My all round golf improved last year, as it should after my first full year as a member after a 4 year break of membership.
Areas I need to work on are my woods from the tee and longer clubs from the deck. Bunker play also needs some work.
Putting has improved dramatically in recent weeks.
Wishing you all a successful year!

89 today in very strong winds, 33 points.
i also shot 85, 33 points. Was extremley pleased, especially as only 4 weeks ago i had hip surgery to repair a hip impingement. It was a bit naughty of me really as I'm not supposed to play for 3 months, but feels ok, little pain so i played. Physio thinks i am only practicing my putting.
Forgot to mention that I watched the final pair tee off in the President's Putter yesterday:

This year will be a full year of golfing.
Found a great instructor who I understand and explain and coaches me in a way I get.
Determined to break 100 regularly this year too.
One minor issue will be convincing the missus that I do need new clubs and that Nike Vapor clubs are worth the investment custom made as my clubs are a bit to small for me.

If you can play every week, then you're half way there. Good luck!Found a great instructor who I understand and explain and coaches me in a way I get.

My target is to shoot 85 consistently and who knows maybe even get an 80 (managed 39 for 9 holes a couple of weeks ago).
I'd try lots of different clubs before you get some custom made, don't just go on what you think looks nice!

Oh I have started that already. The Taylormade RSI irons are very very very nice and super forgiving. But the price on them is a lot higher than the ideal spend. Still bonus to come and all that. I do like the current round of cobra irons too. My target is to shoot 85 consistently and who knows maybe even get an 80 (managed 39 for 9 holes a couple of weeks ago).

Anyone heading to the Open at St Andrews this year??
Trying to find a hotel/B&B is proving impossible
Might have to wait at year for Troon.
No, not this year. I'm going to take the caravan one day and do the whole week.Trying to find a hotel/B&B is proving impossible
Might have to wait at year for Troon.
Which is also what I'm going to do for the Ryder Cup in France, 2018!

Unfortunately not. Wish i was! Watching The Open at the home of golf has always been a dream! Trying to find a hotel/B&B is proving impossible

Settling for a golf weekend with the lads in May at none other than Celtic Manor. Anyone have any experience of playing any of the three courses there? I want to play the 2010 but the guys i play with are all above 20 handicaps and don't really fancy the length. I've heard its a bit of a monster and extremely tough? Almost 7500 Yards?

You might be able to play from the whites (7008).
To be honest I wouldn't fancy playing the full length - 500+ yard par 4's and 666 yard par 5's doesn't sound like great fun

I doubt you'd be allowed to play from the Championship tees - more than likely the yellows (6570).

Yeah, you are probably right in fairness. We're hoping to be allowed off the whites but i guess it depends on how busy the course is etc.You might be able to play from the whites (7008).

I'd love to play a course that length just to see how difficult it really would be. As long as i wasn't carrying my clubs! ha! Don't get me wrong, i know i wouldn't score well...but i'd like the experience!
Right, I'm in but take it easy on me as I'm a slow learner where golf is concerned.
I've flirted on and mostly off with golf for many years but last year in preparation for filling in my time upon retirement I had some lessons and started playing reasonably regularly with my cousin who plays almost every day off of a 9 handicap.
I've just joined the local club as a five day member (Seaford Head) and am hopefully going to be playing at least twice a week this year to get good enough to get a handicap. I don't often count the scores yet as that would probably be offputting, the last time I did though I got round in 105. I had another couple of lessons just before Christmas and have got a couple more booked, I definitely feel like I'm improving so watch this space.

Hey, TeeRev. I like Seaford Head. Have they finished the new club house yet?I've flirted on and mostly off with golf for many years but last year in preparation for filling in my time upon retirement I had some lessons and started playing reasonably regularly with my cousin who plays almost every day off of a 9 handicap.

I'm playing there at the beginning of April.

I shot 42 at my local 9 hole course on Sunday which I was pretty happy with considering I haven't played for 3 months! My handicap is around 22 at the moment after I started playing again last year, so would like to get that down a bit this year. Need to improve my iron shots ..
42, and you have a handicap of 22?! That'll be coming down Rosscow said:

The other courses are nice, but the greens were so tough ( well to me anyway) they broke in the opposite direction to what you would visually see. I had a mate with us who was a pro and he threw his putter in frustration and lost it mid round in the bushes and had to buy a new putter, hilarious. Later that year in the winter my mate had another look for it and found and returned it!
It's and expensive night if you buy drinks in the hotel but worth the experience at 2010, great to see layout, especially the closing 5 holes. We opted for a night out in Cardiff when we last went...i got wasted.
