He's trying far too hard, it's awful to watch.
Couldn't agree more. In his mind he thinks he thinks his some kinda spiritual, inspiring Stephen Hawking. Its just incredibly cringey. Check this one too;

He's earned the right to speak and say what he wishes the way he wants and he has earnt it the hard way.
He was my least favourite of the Super 3 (Benn was my man) but have to give the bloke full respect.
We all have that right. It's called free speech. We also have the right to deride his more crazy musings in the same way that others may laud them as pearls of wisdom. He was my least favourite of the Super 3 (Benn was my man) but have to give the bloke full respect.
I think you'll find a majority regard him as a nutter though, irrespective of any achievements in the ring or anywhere else. Chances are, the more you say, the more you'll divide opinion, and he does have a lot to say about plenty of things.

It takes a real man to live life the way he wants rather than according to norms.
Eccentric? Undoubtedly.
An exceptional talent and character? Equally so.
Those Benn fights will never be beaten for their ferocity.
Benn v Gerald was the most ferocious fight Ive ever seen. Eccentric? Undoubtedly.

Watson and Gerald were probably the most talented of that quartet, Eubank and Benn put them both where they are now in matches of utter soul wrenching ferocity. I watched Benn v Gerald live and Ive seen it a few times against since and seen him interviewed about it. Im firmly of the belief Benn didn't know where he was for most of that fight and fought it from the same kind of place Senna went when he decided he was untouchable. I don't think any other fighter Ive seen would have stood against Benn that night upto light heavy.
Eubank was probably a touch better than Benn because he had the same warrior instinct but a better technique. I always figured their fights even.
That got watching this - it's a documentry about the repercussions of that fight.

There’s an accusation at 44m30s by McClellan’s trainer that Ben was using steroids. He said something about a boot and blood. I can’t hear on my crappy speakers exactly what he said. What did he say?

They found blood on McClellan's boots that had steroids in it. Benn denies it strongly. That's a great documentary. A lot of people saying what happened to McClellan was karma. The Fight of Their Lives - Nigel Benn v Gerald McClellan

I wonder how far he would have gone in boxing if that night hadn't happened?

I've still got that fight on VHS video tape from when ITV showed fights live. Must get it put onto DVD.
Jim Rosental presenting. Jim Watt and Barry McGuigan commentating. Naseem Hamed was there. Frank Bruno was in the front row going mental in an orange suit.
Benn looked totally in the zone as he walked to the ring. He looked wired. There was talk of him being hypnotised by Paul McKenna.
Amazing fight. Benn knocked down and through the ropes onto the judges table in the first round.
Brutal stuff every round until McClellan started blinking a lot and pushing out his gum shield. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but that should've been picked up on by the referee.
And the crassness of Don King celebrating with Benn while his own fighter is fighting for life, collapsed in the other corner.
An incredible occasion with a tragic legacy.

I'm sure, like most of you, I miss that great era of great Middleweight fights and fighters from the mid eighties to nineties.
Benn v McClellan
Hagler v Hearns
Leonard v Duran
Eubank, Watson, Collins etc.
All were in some great fights but the middle four were in a different class as fighters.Benn v McClellan
Hagler v Hearns
Leonard v Duran
Eubank, Watson, Collins etc.
