I turned on the opening ceremony for the London Olympics prepared to watch through my fingers as we put on a toe-curlingly cringe-inducing amateur dramatics display of epic awfulness and tacky jingoism, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it was absolutely excellent from start to finish! smile

Unfortunately, if the new ad with Charles Dance is anything to go by, it looks as though the IRB must've run round the Olympic stadium hoovering up all the dreadfulness just so that they could channel it into promoting the RWC! irked

How much more of this guff are we going to have to put up with before we actually get to the games. frown

I saw that bizarre ad - embarrassing for all concerned.

Kermit,

you don't seem too optimistic!
Firstly, the Olympic Ceremony was going to be "cringe inducing". You were then "pleasantly surprised", to find it was 'absolutely excellent".
Then you think the IRB have "hoovered up all the awfulness" from what you thought was a "pleasantly surprising and absolutely excellent" event. Confused.

Anyway, what I think you have to realise, is that the IRB are trying to raise the profile of the game and the event, to those who may not already be aware of it.
Cheesy; perhaps. Hold on to your shorts though. I think there will be a fair bit more of similar before the games start on 18th September 2015, at 2000 hrs.

From that ad, it doesn't appear that the current world champions will be participating.

I suspect they've just got better taste and more self respect than to appear in that!

Not likely; how much self respect do you need to have a little dance before each match.

Um sorry, but I quite liked that advert.

Didn't actually take itself too seriously (Lycra person)

Rather cringy; I only got to the blue-man gag on the second viewing. 4/10.

I'm more of a RL fan so only a passing interest. I found the advert slow and boring before turning it off half way through.

There is nothing wrong with that advert, on the contrary Id say it's good and getting some emotion together and channeling it in the right way.
