I've watched volleyball a couple of times on TV. The team kind on an indoor court not the beach porno kind. Why does one player wear a different coloured strip?

A very vague idea from my previous playing days and i have forgotten all the corect names and terminology but hopefully i can still help!

The person in the different strip is the 'setter'. They should be getting the second shot to set the third shot up for the spike. So Team A serves to Team B. Team B receive the ball over the net and the first shot is usually a 'bump' shot to direct the ball to the setter for the second shot. The setter then 'sets' the ball for the 'spike' to hopefully win the point and the serve.

Hopefully that goes some way in explaining it for you.

Is that a rule or a tactic? Is it mandatory for the setter to be the secon person to touch the ball.

The player in the different coloured top is the 'libero' - Can exchange places with any player in the back row - cannot serve or block - if paying the 3rd hit of the team the contact cannot be above the net height....In the ideal world the setter would play the second hit, but not a requirement
