Hi, I've not been to Wimbledon before, but looking at their website I cannot buy tickets as they are for some kind of ballot??? WTF?

Anyway, does anyone know how to get hold of the tickets? Can I just turn up on the day? Seems a bit of a mystery this ballot

The ballot closes in December each year...

If you wanted too go, you either need to find a debenture holder who will be willing to sell you their ticket for a day (for a fortune) or queue up early in the morning for one of the limited day tickets. You won't get access to any of the many courts (Centre, 1, 2, 4 etc) but will have access to the rest of the site. Then, at about 4pm, they begin to resale all the returned tickets from the main courts, which you can then buy for the rest of the evening session. There is a booth up on the hill by Court 1 that resells the tickets.

Da fuk confused

It's the largest single venue sporting event in Europe; 500,000 people across 13 days. They could sell the ticket allocation 10 times over. Hence why they have a ballot to give everyone a chance of getting tickets. You think that they'd give these tickets out for free? wobble

And you thought you could ring the ticket office 3 weeks before the start and simply buy some tickets from them hehe

You can't book tickets 3 weeks in advance but yet you can turn up on the day and queue up! How antiquated is that! Doesn't really entice people outside London to come does it?? I mean I've a 3 hour drive to queue up and then not even get in?

Maybe it's me, but I don't think that really is the best way to do it.

I'm not sure they need to "entice" you to go. hehe

It's a 40,000 sell-out every day, for 13 days. The reason they have a ballot is so that everyone gets an equal chance of acquiring tickets; rather than them all being hoovered up by ticket agencies on the first day and then reselling them at massive mark-ups. It's in fact illegal to re-sell your tickets (unless you are a debenture holder) and they will check tickets and will refuse you entry if the details don't match your ID.

They also sell a limited amount of tickets on the day, for people who missed out on the ballot but still really want to go and are prepared to get there early in the morning and queue.

Sadly they don't cater for people who decide that they might fancy going a couple of weeks before it starts but aren't bothered enough to get there early and queue.... hehe

I'd quite like to go to the Superbowl but the tickets are £300 and it's in the States and I'd have to get a flight, then there are hotel rooms and the queues at passport checkin.....don't think I'll bother as it doesn't sound like they really want me to go..... wink

Why does anybody want to watch pretentious bat and ball? One of the great mysteries of the world.

"Empty" seats; not "unsold" seats.

They can't force ticket holders to turn up anymore than they can force Arsenal season-ticket holders to turn up to a Tuesday game in January against Stoke.
