Zephyr heart rate monitor

I use strava and wanted to get into heart rate zone training. So got myself £95 worth of zephyr heart rate monitor to connect to my phone/strava. But I'm having great difficulty trying to get it to connect. It's paired up ok and I have had managed to get a readying a few times, but it just won't stay connected. Before I bin it. Has anyone else found a way around this? I have obviously wet the contacts with varying abouts of water, even a lube type stuff for a better contact, but nothing seems to work.
