Grand National Tips

Offtopic, but my girlfriend's brother was telling me about a tip he received for Royal Ascot, the Queen Anne back in 2012..
A girl approaches him in the office and says, all shifty with voice lowered:
'Umm, how might I go about placing a bet, if say I had a tip that a horse was going to win later today?'
'Well you'd just create an account with, for example, Paddy Power - then put money on the horse. Really simple.'
'Ah, OK. Do you think you could put the money on for me? Have it on good authority this horse will do the business, a friend knows a fair bit about this race.'
'Sure... which horse are you thinking?'
'Frankel'.

Off to Aintree tomorrow as part of a Stag do, won't be betting much those as firstly I haven't a clue and secondly I don't find gambling particularly alluring.
A friend who's into it though so said look at the weights and go for something around 10st7lb? I just nodded lol.

Frankle is (arguably) the greatest flat horse there has ever been, i'm guessing this conversation took place prior to him being famous.
Nope. Took place 2/3 of the way through his glittering career - he was 4/11 favourite that day, on one of the most difficult flat races of the calendar.Grand National betting explained:
Pick a name of a horse you like. Decide how much you are prepared to lose and halve it (this will be your stake). Go to the betting shop and fill out a betting slip with the name of your horse and the race (in this instance 4:15 Aintree) and then put E/W. Put down your stake on the slip as well.
Go the counter and hand over double your stake (the amount you were prepared to lose). You have now placed your bet and if your horse comes either 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th you will win some money.
Form on the National goes out the window, so it's like sticking a pin in a piece of paper.

Some tips for the 1st timers on not what to say
Can I pay the tax (abolished in 2001).
What does each way mean (you are placing 2 bets 1 win/1 place) so £1 ew costs £2.
Are you busy? Or you're going to be busy today! (no st sherlock).
What does take the price mean? (take price = fix the odds so if the market moves you price doesn't).
My advice? Decide how much you don't mind losing, split it between 3 or 4 horses, enjoy the race and if you back each way hope you get 1 in the 1st 4
This will be my 26th grand national and even with the questions above its my favourite working day of the year.

Not a tip so don't waste your money but I'm sticking a few quid each way on One in a Milan after reading an interview with his owner. Something along the lines of he's the biggest laziest horse he's ever known if he fancies a run he could win it! I like that if he's bothered he will win
