Hi,
Used to snorkel and scuba dive in my early 20s but stopped and took up other closer hobbies but now decided to start enjoying the coast near me and snorkel again.

Been checking out blogs and it's a 50/50 split on whether to take a dive knife/shears with you. Being near Plym there are fishing boats so getting entangled is a possibility.

Looking for more opinions and reviews on a decent cheep (<£25) knife that could be attached to my leg/me or pos weight belt, not that I always wear the belt.

How about you get a small J knife?

Gill make a really good little one, can be sewn on to a wetsuit, works for filament line?

Why would you wear weights if just snorkeling?

depends on the suit, you would wear them to compensate that, maybe 2-3 Kg of lift in a suit, allows you to not fight and hence more hunting time

I used to do a lot of free diving back in my 20s/30s. Luckily in warm waters with no need for a suit. The weight of a speargun and a big sod-off knife meant no belt was needed for lobstering or tuna.

The 40-a-day habit with the ciggies meant I only stayed at the 100ft mark for a while. Great sport, still love it.

Got it, I've only got a couple kilos on me but it means I sink that bit easier, still float about on the surface quite happily. Was in the shop that taught me to dive and they think in our area we should be cool not to need one. Saves a bit of cash there.
