What sort of budget do you have?

I just sold my beretta 686s last week, great for smashing clays.

Over and under but very much a beginner, I have been hiring guns at the club and settled on a 31" maruku, but have to say the 900 series webley 12 bore looks the part, but has a few not so nice write ups, then the fabarm looks good. So after a nice gun up to say £700, and will be going to the shooting fair on the 16th Feb with the intention of buying a gun there, unless I can find a bargain.

I recommend you get in touch with Mick Vokes in Kettering, he's a top guy to buy from with a constantly changing stock to try out and prices way better than regular dealers.

His web presence is pretty crappy but you can get in touch with him through http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ where he posts as wabbitbosher.

For £700 you will probably end up coming away from Mick with a couple of guns...

Bought mine from these guys http://www.essexgun.com/index2.html. Many years ago seem to recall paying about £600ish for a Browning 325 grade II multichoke. Ended up a shorter barrel as I found I preferred the weight and balance Would recommend trying a few guns of different makes and barrel lengths as they are very much a personal choice

There's great instructor fairly close to you, he's based in Epping and owns his own clay shooting school Nice guy and extremely professional. http://www.shooting-school.org. Micheal Aldis

Have fun

I'd recommend a 2nd hand Beretta, Miroku or Browning. You won't lose much on any of them and the resale will be easier if you decide to upgrade once you've gained some experience.

A good coach is also worth looking in to if you decide to progress. Check out http://www.shootclayforum.com/

I'm in the same Bank, SGC arrived on Saturday Morning and i had planned to go on a Pay and Play that same day. Almost seemed pointless really as if i go along to my local shop i'm sure i can play with as many as i want for free before i part with some well earned paper.

Plan on getting an U/O 12, something smaller for Fun maybe Single barrel 20, and a double .410 for Multi use by Me/Wife/Eldest Boy.

Have no real preference yet, just want to try a load first.

I've been using one of those during my first 12 months at it and I'm perfectly happy with it

Can see myself keeping it a fair while actually.
