My advice, as a commercial user of this gear is to buy cheap.

Our curved mitts cost us £10 per pair and last 12-18 months of being used three hours per night, 5 days per week.

Just a thought.

Don't need to be pricey. Just need to be well cut (the material's shape) and a good weight.

The gloves we supply to our students (we buy over 10,000 pairs per year) are made from PU and are between 10-14oz depending on the student's size and weight. Of course we buy trade but you don't need to spend more than 20/25 quid retail. They will last 2 years easily with 2/3 days per week usage.

I've got leather Twins gloves (16) for my personal use outside of using our branded gear in class and tbh they don't last any longer really than well made PU. It's the padding that goes before the outer shell in my experience.

I'd stick with the long time players in the Martial Arts industry for reasonable PU gloves; MAR International, BCS, Blitz, Cimac etc. Whatever you do don't go anywhere near Sports Direct specials; Lonsdale et al. They really are utter crap in every sense. We prefer to sell our own stuff in our clubs but accept the above brands and the better boxing manufacturers. We categorically refuse to teach people with cheap Lonsdale etc gloves.

I'd only spend more myself for points fighting; in which case I like the Adidas mitts best…they're lighter and smaller than most other brands.

Thanks for the warning re: sports direct. Some of their stuff is ok, some of it rubbish.

RDX do some pretty decent stuff, have their bags and mits down our gym and i use their gloves and would say they do the job.

Gloves padding is fading a little now after 9 months of hard use but they are still fit for use.

Indeed. I have one of their groin guards and I've been very impressed by it.

You mention being willing to cough up - whether you consider it reasonable or not I'm not sure! - but I have/have had all sorts and really like the Rival gloves and mitts. Good service from their European distributor too.
