Just started running, Any thoughts on which app is best to use on your mobile?
Also is there a HRM that will work on android?
I nearly ordered one but it needed 4.3 which my Xperia T hasn't got.

You should be able to use 4.3 on that phone very shortly:

Can comment on the other two, I tried Strava and it seemed fine but Garmin Connect which obviously works with Garmin devices is excellent and there is no need for anything else (if you use a Garmin device). Map My run I use occasionally for planning courses, but have never used it for tracking workouts.

I've seen two different apps running at the same time record very different distances so I'm a bit wary. The only bit of software I've come to trust is MyTracks, but I prefer the output/format of Strava - so I'm running them both in parallel since recently installing Strava. Strava does work very nicely and looks slick so once I'm happy that it's accurate enough then I'll just use that.

Can you plan routes in strava? It's a handy function of map my run.

A quick Google suggests so, though I usually plan my routes by other means so I haven't tried it.

Tried strava a few times now and it's pretty cool! I listen to 165 bmp music whilst jogging, so I''ve got my Bluetooth lug plugs in anyway, so the update of your splits every half a K is really useful. I also like how it gives you PBs or your ranking for segments of your run if other users have gone that way before.

Of topic I'm new to all this running malaria, but I've heard tempo training it's supposed to be well worth doing, but I'm not sure exactly what it is. Anyone fill me in please?

Nast stuff that running malaria. Get rest and drink lots of fluids smile

I use strava for cycling. Happy with it. Segments are good, and whilst only an an iPhone rather than a Garmin or 'owt I'm pretty satisfied with accuracy

I used RunKeepr on my phone which was pretty good, but I found the GPS accuracy on the phone wasn't that great which made trying to use the phone to judge my pace was a bit hit an miss. I assume that's an issue with phone GPS in general rather than the software. I've now got a Garmin 610 watch which has far more reliable GPS.

I've found that different software can show different results on the same phone. My missus used to use Runkeeper but kept finding the results were wrong or that it would drop GPS. She switched to some Nike app which seems pretty good initially, and followed me to Strava as well. Strava seems to consistently be accurate on my phone so far.

Wow! That is quite a big thread. I'm a slow runner and an even slower reader. Anyone fancy giving me some pointer here biggrin

Just ask questions on that thread, we don't mind going over things again if they've been asked before and you'll get more responses.

I like Map My Run, but noticed when it goes wrong, it can go nuts.
I have Runtastic now, but not been able to trial it yet.
