So a friend reckons that the local Uni have a quidditch team that train on Southampton common, running around with broom sticks between their legs.

This got me thinking, what other "sports" from the world of film, games or books would work in real life.

And have any pastimes actually arisen from fiction originally? Did 3d chess from Star Trek become an actual thing?

I'd quite like to see the real life version of Speedball 2...

Apocalypto. The guys in blue run like buggery to the reeds while the others try to kill them with spears, slings, arrows etc.

You can sub out the blue guys for any undesirables in society I guess.

Thieves, muggers, chavs, Tony Blair, James Corden…..

Robot fighting aka Real Steel would be a good one (and presumably technically possible)?

I'm certain I saw an American tv show that had giant robots fighting, although they were tethered by power or control cables

I've seen that, they are on long sticks a bit like subbuteo goalies and randomly spit hydraulic flood when "damaged". Theory is good!

I always fancied Smash TV (influenced by Robocop I think).
