Okay, I think we all know that Andy Murray is going to win the top prize but who is going to be runner-up? Best Team? Best Coach? What about Overseas or the Youngster?

Any thoughts?

Please vote Ben Ainslie.

Ben Ainslie for me. Absolutely instrumental in Team Oracle winning the Americas Cup.

And as much as it pains me to say it, Leigh Halfpenny has had a good year as well.

Surprised (but not disappointed) that there's no footballers on there. Think it highlights how poor they have been in comparison to other British sports stars.

My thoughts too. Also can Red Bull F1 Team be allowed, being an "Austrian" team, though Man U, Man City and Chelsea are owned abroard?

I used to think the same about his personality. But there was a documentary about him on earlier in the year and it showed in there that he does have a sense of humor I think it just doesn't come across very well during interviews.

Think he will win it.

Would like Ben or Mo to win if I am honest.

Team will be The Lions surely. It's the first series they have won in 12 years. Getting harder every year time to win.

Murray or Farah personally, both have achieved something pretty incredible this year and Murray is up against Federer, Djokovic or Nadal in pretty much every semi final these days so to win two titles is incredible. Farah, well, he is just a hero. To follow up two golds in 2012 with 2 in the world championships is incredible given the Africans effectively gang up on him in every race, but to then go and almost win a half marathon...

Team of the Year really should be the Womens Team Pursuit team of Trott, Rowsell, King and Barker. There is no womens track cycling team who can get within 8 seconds of them over 4000m at the moment...

Agree with all of this, for me it's between Farah and Murray.

The Team Pursuit women are so far ahead of the competition and IIRC faster than some of the male teams!

Womens Team Pursuit is absurdly dominant.

Murray will walk it. I would have thought Froome would be in with a shout, and whilst generally preferred to Wiggins within the cycling community, for the general public I would suggest that Wiggins win last year was due to his personality as well as his achievemets.

Murray
Ainsle
Froome

I reckons....

Ah yes, the start of my annual bugbear. That it's still called "sports personality" when it should just be renamed "sports person of the year", so much more relevant.

My guess is there are no footballers present because it's a team sport, less reliant - in the age of squad rotation and 45 players on the books - that one man can be so influential.

Ryan Giggs is 40 today and is still credited with commanding games, indeed he was instrumental in Wednesdays European victory. The headline says it all... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/ma...

One game. Not a season. He's hardly going to get SPOTY award for playing well in one game.
Ah yes, you may say, but Murray did well in only one game and he's almost certain to win. It's the consequences and ramifications of winning that one game though isn't it.

Also Giggs got his miscellaneous life time achievement nod in 2009, like AP McCoy did in 2011

Giggs won the actual SPOTY award - although no doubt wo nfor colelctive achivements.

I would say Murray is an almost certain wnner because of Wimbledon but also becuase of the other names mentioned none seem to have done anythign as massive that I have seen in the mainstream media.
