So the Rugby League World Cup starts in a few days and is being hosted by our glorious nation but I haven't seen a single mention of it on here

So unless I'm the only one interested:

Who will you be supporting, what do you think their chances of winning it are, or if your impartial who do you fancy for the win and who are your players to watch?

I'll be supporting England, chances of winning them it? before the Italy game I thought we had a chance, now I'll say none. Australia - New Zealand final again in my opinion.

Breaking up Great Britain into the individual home nations when lets face it most of the players are really English and from either Yorkshire or Lancashire just makes it easier for Ossies and the Kiwis. Tri-Nations is a better format and more competitive.

Can't see past the Aussies tbh but can't say that I am taking the Italy result too much to heart (Australia B as I call them)

As JP says in his column, England's entire team need to play on top form to get the win tomorrow. Much as I dislike Hock, I think we will miss him and JJB is a big loss as he is so consistent. Rangi should be nowhere near the squad - can't believe we have him instead of Brough in the half backs. Stunned that Eorl wasn't picked after the season he had as well

We have some quality players - Graham, Widdup, Tomkins, Sinny to name a few. Hardaker would play at full back for me as he is better defensively than Ratboy, but then you have to find space for Tomkins as an attacking threat

Looking forward to NZ v PNG at Headsingley - playing against a NZ masters team beforehand, and then the little lad is playing at half time thumbup

Bring on the bash!!

On the other hand I strongly dislike Hock and am quite glad he has been dropped, I really do not rate him at all, JJB is a huge loss and I say that not only as a Leeds fan

Agree RE rangi yes he is good for cas but better than brough overall? surely not.
As much as I rate hardaker you simply cannot ignore tomkins so he has to go fullback, what space does that leave for hardaker other than on the bench I'm not sure

I'm going to the NZ game, what number do you play I'll keep an eye out haha

We're playing down at the academy at Kirkstall

Lad plays number 10 for Guiseley though. We will be in the North Stand as that's where they give the cheap tickets for frown

Not saying I like Hock - quite the opposite - but he is a decent player, and agree that Tomkins has to play, just pointing out that defensively he is frail and can see a lot of high ball going his way

Pity that Reid is missing too

Ahh that'll be awesome!

I played at headingley in my youth (probably around 11) during half time for a new zealand(possibly barbarians) union game, what a feeling that was, your lad will love it!

Tomkins under the high ball is a scary concept as an england fan, I don't know why I think maybe he is too scared of getting clattered if he keeps his eye on the ball, I reckon Hall will be told to drop back a bit to assist should any high balls come that way.

My dad was saying it wasn't only hock who was out drinking from the england squad, not sure why he has been singled out

Heading to the NZ vs Samoa game on Sunday night. Really looking forward to it, 10 of us in the standing area with 9 supporting NZ and 1 Samoan! That will be the only game we head to unless i drive down for another.

Can't wait for the start. Hoping England do well but the game againts Italy means I'm not hopefull.

Very pleased to see Sonny Bill Williams do a u-turn. I watched some of the rooster games and he's been at times unplayable. Joy to watch.

I'm off to the opener tomorrow. Can't wait. Look out for a tall bloke in U10, South stand.
England will have a lot to do to win this. I think they're 8/1 with the bookies to win the RLWC.

Wales v Italy could be a good match too - given Italy's performance in their warm up game.
Was planning on going by train...but the Severn Tunnel is shut for maintenance and don't want to spend an hour and a bit on a replacement bus. Getting little 'un to drive us to Chepstow and train it from there.

Also got tickets for USA v Cook Islands at the Mem.

Much as I'd love to see a Home nations winner (even England wink) I can't see past an ANZAC final.

i'm glad the England aussie game was at least competitive - our centres looked outclassed and exposed in defence and didn't really offer anything in attack, our forwards kept us in the game so big raps to them.

Aussies look awesome as ever with ball in hand, just speed of thought and execution still a class above us.

I hope England make it to semis at least, but I have bitter bitter memories of Elland Road and Darren Lockyer a few years ago.

for the naysayers, at least there is physicality, action and tries to appreciate. Slaters' 40-20 rescue the other day was worth admission price alone

thats an odd sentiment

As a rugby league fan ive been wtching/recording every game I can

Just seen charnley has been left out in favour of briscoe (I know now he plays for leeds I should like him but I dont)

Why oh why leave charnley out in favour of briscoe, I dont get it, while we're on the subject I dont know why leeds have signed him

ETA: Just read further down, charnley is injured slightly
