Article on running a Magic Mile:

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-runnin...

During my normal jogging I have recently been trying to do one mile (normally the second one) completely flat out.

The other day I did it in 6:56. Yesterday I did it in 6:52.

What are your 'Magic Mile' times?

Never tried just running 1 single mile quickly, but according to Endomondo/Garmin my quickest ever was 6:36.

Not too bad for a bit of a fatty.

Never tried but done 5m44s on the second mile of a hilly 3.5 mile race so I would hope to be a fair bit quicker on a single mile on a flat track. I average 5m56s over the whole distance.

Did our local Magic Mile, in the park 6:28 (age 56).

The only time in my life (apart form maybe at school) I've run a serious pace timed mile.

A weekly set of 4 x 1 mile reps would be an excellent session for improving ParkRun times. Recovery of approx 50% of the effort time (so about 3 mins based on your MagicMile time).

5.50 according to Strava, although that was part of a 10k run with 5k at "tempo"

I'm the opposite of what the article says, I do too much speed work (because they're the sessions I enjoy the most and see the gains) and not enough long slow runs. Planning to remedy that when I get back to running though (currently injured, probably due to the above).

4:57..... it was at the Mille Sagrada Familla (A mile race around the church in Barcelona) and I think that given a bit of training, I could have dipped below 4:50

6:05 as part of a recent 5k PB. Never raced 1 mile before but the McMillan pace calculator is saying I can do about 5:38 or so.

That's pretty cool (the calculator)!

Says 5m11s for me but I took a 5k time based on a hilly race so maybe a teensy bit quicker. Might give it a go once my leg is 100% fine.

Managed a 4:52 many years ago when I was in pretty decent shape.

We had to run this as part of pre-season training. Anyone who didn't make it under 4:50 had extra running to do.

Although I agree with the principle, I'd have to run a lot slower than 6:28 to be able to do even 1 repeat! I sometimes do 4 x 1k, which did improve my parkrun time, but at the moment the combination of a nagging knee problem and being run director at pr I'm not doing too much running at the moment.

Don't know about a mile, but i managed a mile and a half in 9m.15s.

Horrible distance to run.

I once did a session of 3x 2km intervals, uphill. Jogged back after each and started again. Horrible. Was raining too. It sounds so innocent, 3x2km...

not exactly sure but years ago our pre RL season summer training used to involve a 2 mile road run as a warm up - it was up and down with a hill finish my best ever time for two miles was 9:50.

I didn't think that was bad for a 14st 10 Centre

Are you certain of the distance? That would be about 15:30 5k pace which would be quite outstanding for anyone of any weight. If you are certain of the distance, I would seriously think about doing some running training

Managed 7m 13s the other day, after deciding to try an just to shorter distances, faster. Think I can get under 7 mins for the mile relatively easily, but we'll see...
