Anyone learnt to kite surf here? (not sure if this is a sports/health or general post????)

Plenty of places offer courses - but a recommendation would be good. My closest cost is Bournemouth (i'm in Reading) - so Cornwall, etc - not so good)

I've flown power kites and done a bit of buggying so not a complete newbie

I had a couple of lessons years ago at East Beach in Shoeburyness. The Estuary at Southend is a great place to learn, don't know any in your neck of unfortunately. Best bet is go down and chat to the guys doing it.

Are you on Facebook? Look up Matt Dimmock. His profile picture is of him kite surfing. He is an instructor not too far from you

You're about equidistant between Bournemouth & Brighton. Lancing, just along the coast from Brighton is a world class Kitesurfing beach & there's a bunch of schools training people around here.

I would get hold of Danny at Surf Ladle in Shoreham Beach & ask him - top chap from my old windsurfing days - or have a look round Google for yourself. One thing I would keep in mind is there's not a school on the earth will emphasise the risks, but just be aware a fundamental part of kitesurfing is a very large pendulum of which you form the weight at the bottom. People do come unstuck regularly, hitting groynes, sea walls, small children, passing buses etc. Even with all the chicken loops & safety schtick, it's still a development sport in terms of the gear & you should always proceed with great caution.

Not a million miles from Reading, about an hour or so.

Lancing world class? It's there are better beaches along the south coast, Hayling and Portland are better. Go to CKB at Hayling to learn. It's better to learn there than in the channel mush.
