I have just seen the Bath/Tigers match (recorded it as I was out yesterday) and found the refereeing of the scrums a bit confusing. I know that many (i.e. me) were confused by the refs' decisions in the past when it came to infringements (including the refs making the decisions), but I thought it would be clearer nowadays.

I'm all for this enforcement of the put in, which was penalised four or five times yesterday, and then it dawned on the 9s that the ref was serious, but there were a number of calls on the scrum, including the yellow, which seemed to me to be more than a little harsh.

When the Leicester were down to 13 they managed to use the scrum to lose over two minutes by a single reset so not the magic cure-all that it was suggested, but overall there seemed to be a distinct improvement.

My team yesterday completely dominated the opposing tight five yesterday and out props are picked for speed rather than weight. Technique seems everything nowadays. Half way through the second half the opposing tight five were exhausted and ours, which to a man is very fit, were knackered by the end. All this running's not good for people.

I've got to say the new BT commentary team lose a lot to the Sky's presenters: prejudices, rants, wandering off into inconsequential 'what ifs' and going over and over one point until everyone is asleep, including the commentary team.
