Long story short but I'm pretty fit for an old giffer (38) and have done quite well in a few running races and triathlons (1st in one run, 1st in a tri, mostly top 10 in other stuff) I then overdid it and straight after my last tri (in which I sliced my foot open) I had a year of a broken immune system. I could still train but not hard.

So all was well and while I'm not cycling enough, I was running and sea swming a lot. Plus surfing all the time so was looking forward to an autumn of racing. I missed out on an 11 mile coast race I think I could have done well in (most of my running is coast and I am pretty nippy off road) thanks to a last minute family commitment but that was okay; plenty more events coming up.

Then two weekends ago, while surfing, I got hit extremely hard in the calf by a surfboard. Total agony, couldn't walk, it's still hurting a lot two weeks later. I can't see myself running for at least a month.

I really am quite narked. Only Autumn swells (surfing seems okay but painful) will help.

People have MUCH worse but these things have all been fairly minor but incapacitating. At least with a broken limb you KNOW you're stuffed for a while!

DAMMIT!!!!

Get over it!
All I can say is you're very luckly to ONLY have those injuries. I'm now 41, chronic left shoulder pain (2 years) , messup rhombus which won't heal (now 6 months), and a right knee that won't heal (1.5 years). So I can;t run/walk/cycle (knee) . Cannot surf/swim (shoulder). Cannot to wieghts (back, shoulder, knee).

I can't do feking any sport at all now for the last 2 years nearly and it driving me INSANE, and I'm sure there's people worse off out there than me.

What are you doing about it ?.
Get your shoulder sorted via Physio or MRI and injection and or op. Simple. Probably torn RC, so you're living with something you needn't.
Same with knee.
I have had right and left torn RC, from tennis and windsurfing...thought the same as you....then ....why am I putting up with this. Same with split patella on right knee.
All sorted within 6 weeks. No reason whatsoever you cannot do sport, but you need to sort it yourself directly...or you really will go insane.

I've been doing a lot actually - I've seen so far, 2 knee surgeons, 4 doctors, and 3 physios, and 1 sports injury specialist over the last 2 years. Believe me I'm trying, but nothing works it seems. Age thing, but luck, or worn out body. Anyhow my point is not the list of injuries, but there's always many many people worse off than yourself, so just get on with living with whatever you have! (or not)
