An odd question I'll admit but I'm doing the Scotland Tough Mudder this Saturday. 10.15 start time if you are wondering.

Anyone done it before and can recommend gloves to wear?

Cheers!

I did Tough Guy earlier in the year and I think it's broadly the same thing but less cold. I'd recommend some mountain biking gloves. Don't get anything with velcro on the wrists to hold them on as it won't work when they're muddy. Elastic is much better. I'd also make sure you get full length ones too, not ones with the finger tips cut off.

Gloves won't be that necessary I wouldn't think. If anything, they'd get cold from the water and hold onto it. Aren't you meant to be tough doing a Tough Mudder? MTFU!

I'm doing the same event, with a 10am start time. I've ordered a pair of polyco mad grip + gloves, and plan to take the tips off them to let the water drain out. There were a load of reviews on the USA Amazon site, where a lot of people raved about them. At £8, i'd rather have something that I can choose to take off during the mudder, than wish I had them later.

Good luck!

Cheers for that! I'll try and order a pair right now.

Well if someone wearing a Luigi costume that might be me!

Good luck too!

They're not to keep your hands warm. They're to give you some grip on the ropes and ladders.

I only saw one luigi and mario set. It was about 3 miles in where I was waiting for team mates to catch up on the stone bridge (just where you ran through the main crowd crossing with the army volunteers). I wearing a blue shirt with a spiked very bright orange mohawk.

How did you find it?

That was probably us then.

Did you have your number shaved into your head too?

We started at 10.15 wave and finished in just under three hours. It was pretty hard going, I did no training at all which didn't help. Last time I ran (about 9k distance) must have been about 2 months ago! Lots of waiting about though not just for obstacles but me and Mario were in a team of ten so we tried to stick together the best we could.

My calves are pretty sore and tight today!

How did you get on?

We started at 10am, so it's highly likely you passed us about 4 miles in.

We were running with a male and female team with mixed abilities and all vowed to get across the line together. We did 5 hours later!

The waiting for teammates at each obstacle didn't do us any favours, as our muscles cooled down each time. We spent a fair time helping random people at the harder obstacles, and then 20 minutes pulling people up Everest, which was loads of fun and added to the days experience.

I was very happy to have completed every obstacle properly, and really enjoyed the whole day. I think 3 hours would have been about right if a few of the boys had gone at a steady pace. A bit stiff in the knees and shoulders on Sunday morning, and had a good few scrapes and bruises.

I found the gloves brilliant as well, and the only place I took them off was to get over the Funky Monkey bars. Bring on next year thumbup

This was taken at the end in the queue for electroshock therapy smile

I've bought full finger weight lifting gloves, for the grip really. Pull-ups are made more difficult, but it gives a killer workout on the forearms.
