Well it's that time of the year again for all of us golf addicts! All the players are raving about Murfield and what a quality track it is, I think this is going to be a great Open.
Who's your money on? I've got a cheeky feeling about Nicolas Colserts but would love to see a Brit victory of course. Rose winning would be immense and put the cat well amongst the pigeons for Sports Personality this year...

I'm fortunate to have played Muirfield (grew up in Gullane) and it deserves all of it's plaudits imo.
Whilst it is a fantastic challenge for an enthusiastic amateur like me, it is quite short for a modern course though, and unless we get some decent breezes I can see the big boys taking it apart.

Colserts is 65/1 on betfair, cheeky jacks i feel Who's your money on? I've got a cheeky feeling about Nicolas Colserts but would love to see a Brit victory of course. Rose winning would be immense and put the cat well amongst the pigeons for Sports Personality this year...
Would say Rose is the best home hope but I wonder whether the hangover from the US will hamper his chances.
I see Westwood has joined Sean Foley's ranks in last 24 hours, love to see him win it but the flat stick needs to work like never before and I just can't see it. His long game implosion at Wentworth makes me think he has neglected that in order to try and improve his short game.
Weather forecast I have seen is very benign, course is playing very very fast from what I have read, even for a links course.
Its under 7200 yards so I think they'll be a lot of driving irons in play off the tee which plays into Tiger's hands somewhat, even his improved driving this year is still not very good.
Tough one to call, fancy one of the Saffas to be up there, Grace or Louis perhaps
For a longer shot, I'd have a few quid on Thomas Bjorn.
Colsearts (with DJ and Bubba) is in the bombers group, they are going to have to wait for every green to clear!
Can't wait for it to begin!

Agree with everything you've just said dxb, the only addition I'd add is Sterne to the Saffas group
Yeah I'll have that, love his attitude on the course, completely unflappable. As for the septics (other than Tiger) then Kuchar would be the one I'd back. Underrated short game and a great putter.

Nice part of the world to grow up in if you're a golfer! Whilst it is a fantastic challenge for an enthusiastic amateur like me, it is quite short for a modern course though, and unless we get some decent breezes I can see the big boys taking it apart.
I'm lucky enough to have played Muirfield too and a few of the other courses on the rota....fabulous feel to it and as you say I can see the Pro's shooting low if there's no wind. Although I read somewhere that the fairways are narrow so hopefully with some hard ground the course will still have it's defences.
If you love golf and haven't played Gullane/Muirfield/North Berwick get yourself up to that part of the world pronto!
It is a gorgeous part of the world. I grew up in East Lothian and my parents still live there. I have only played at Gullane and Kilspindie but both were great rounds.
The views over the Forth are amazing. I went to the Open ther in 1992 with some friends was rediculously cheap. I cannot believe it is £75 to get in today!

I can't see particularly low scores.
I can imagine it being brick hard fairways, with punishing rough not far off them, potentially keeping the players shorter off the tee for accuracy.
Read in interview with the head greenkeeper, the rough just off the fairway is a lot easier than it looks he said, whilst it's long it's quite thin due to the crap Spring weather. The really brutal stuff is quite a long way off line.I can imagine it being brick hard fairways, with punishing rough not far off them, potentially keeping the players shorter off the tee for accuracy.
There will be a lot of driving irons/fairway woods in play as long as the wind stays down.
Tiger rumoured to be putting a glued head Covert Tour in play this week, been practicing a lot with it. If the wind stays down he won't hit it more than 8-10 times I reckon.

If it's as firm as we all think it's going to be, it's got to favour the long hitters who can hit 2 irons close to 280-300 off the tee. One of my mates mentioned Dustin Johnson, while he's not been in great form he hits it a bloody mile and is used to the wind...think he's 100/1 too
Tiger's 3 iron going over 300 in practice if it stayed in the fairway, 4 iron around 285 from what I read this morning.Crazy numbers.

Probably about the same as my driver at my (pretty burnt parkland) local. I usually carry about 220-230 and have got some ridiculous bounces recently, up to and over 300 yards.Crazy numbers.

Whereas I am playing in 45 degree ish heat every weekend now and am luck to get more than 10 yards roll. They do dump about a million gallons of water on courses here every night, links golf it ain't!
