Hi all
Anyone out there know how to calculate a handicap. I don't belong to a club but could hand in cards if 14, 11, and 5 over . I am playing in a lot more competitions recently and don't want to get the bandit label

Thanks

It's a bit more complicated than just taking your average over the three cards. Net double bogeys and all that malarkey, along with the SSS for the course.

Have a look here:

I think there are a few websites where if you sign up and enter the scores from your cards they assign you an official handicap

I get called a bandit when I play golf, i'm not sure if that's because i'm better than my handicap or due to an unfortunate allegation made by some guys down the precinct

14,11 and 5 over aren't bandit scores. Playing a 28 handicap and when you should be of much lower is proper banditry. I have a mate, who plays of 21, there is no way he should be off that but he is. He is a proper bandit.

I have stopped playing in comps at my local course due to the handicap system. Got sick and tired of posting some of the lowest gross scores only to lose more or less every comp to a rabbit!

If you handed those cards in you would probably be somewhere around 11 or 12 but it depends on the course, which tees etc.
I thought you had to be a member somewhere to have an official handicap. And you are supposed to nominate the round for handicap purposes before you tee off, you cant pick and choose which cards to hand in after you've played.

My club used split comps into different categories to stop this.

Juniors who play every day in the summer are the problem. The HC system can't keep up with their improvement.

Er... I'd hope someone who can shoot 5 over isn't going to get a 12 handicap smile

In my defence the phrase " you luck bd " was said a few times on the 5 over round ! I think I will say 10 and see how it goes. I like the web site suggested and will start filling in a few cards and see what it comes up with.

Thanks
