I've entered the ballot. Despite the physio telling me that I wouldn't be able to run that far with my flat feet.
Like a challenge.
Challenges are good!Like a challenge.
I've entered the ballot. I hate running with a passion, therefore its going to be quite a challenge. Got a load of colleagues who've also got into the ballot as well, if many of us get in then its going to be a little like a day in the office.

Why on earth would he/she say that? There's a great deal of the population with pronated feet - Get training and good luck getting your place.Like a challenge.

This is a direct quote. "You have the flatest feet i have ever seen, can i show my colleague?" He seemed quite impressed by howo bad they are. He said i have never told someone not to run but i think there is a distance restriction and i think a marathon is unlikely.Willing to prove i can do it.

Have you tried the minimalist/barefoot/mid foot strike running? One of the big advantages that I've heard for that is that it doesn't matter if you've got fat fleet or not, it won't hinder you. I'd do a bit of research though into it.Willing to prove i can do it.

Is there a Bristol marathon? Google just brings up references to the Bristol Half and the 10k. Got a link?
There's this proposal: http://www.intercitygames.co.uk/marathon-2014.html that then references Brighton marathon.

Yeah - I should just get some entry in, but there are four or five marathons I really want to run, London, Boston, New York, Snowdonia, probably one other will crop up, or perhaps a really local one, but they're life goals, as opposed to just going out and putting in a 26 miler. The support, experience, the whole deal. I'm just annoyed I didn't even know the ballot was on.

Thanks. I have an appointment with a podiatrist tomorrow for a fitting of temporary othortics. I had seen that about minimalist running as well so maybe that's worth a try.Edit:

Interestingly I currently can't run because I have tendonitis in my ankle caused by this. At the weekend I took my daughter for a bike ride and she sped up I ran along side in my normal shoes (not trainers) which are completely flat soled. I didn't get any pain at all.

Definitely - I've seen plenty of flat feet in clinic never heard anyone mutter you can't run a marathon from sports medicine doctors or physios. Would put that right to the back of your mind and get on with exercises to build up tib post get some off the shelf orthotics.Flat feet would not restrict someone from running a marathon, maybe long term wear and tear on the navicular joint but that'd be after some years of pounding.
Good luck though.
