I'm in the red zone race number 47789.

Wearing a white vest with my charity: "miles for the many" on the front and "Go Rhodesy Go!" And "435 miles for PTSD" on the back.

Anyone else running?

Haha much the same as me then. Lots of training but my first marathon so a happy completion will be enough for me.

Good luck for tomorrow.

Yellow vest, orange trainers and lots of tattoos on my arms.

No. 7780 and I'm in the blue start, pen 8. May try and blag a faster pen because I'm after a sub-3:30 finish!

Good luck to everybody running.

Did it in 3:52:31, so some way off target. Temperature was very warm and there were far too many people, so I was dodging and weaving to compensate for my comically slow starting pen (4:30 runners). Ended up running almost 27 miles too! Glad I've done it but I think I'll choose a smaller scale marathon for my next PB attempt.

Well done to everybody that ran it today.

My wife ran 3:50:25 and her garmin also showed nearly 27 miles but London is always like that as you have to find your way around the people who got their time estimation wrong.

Glad I wasn't the only one that measured long! If I went with just the 26.2 miles, I'd have clocked in at 3:43.

Is your wife a club runner? I finished my run with a lady that finished in 3:50:25 with her husband spectating...

My legs feel OK today; thighs and hips are a little stiff but I'm definitely mobile and will attempt a walk into town later to get some blood flowing.

Somewhat slower for me but it was my first marathon and I hit the wall physically at 20 miles with inexplicably painful cramp in both my quads and hamstrings.

4 hours 35 minutes. Happy enough with that and know I could have kept up my pace had my legs been in better shape as my half split was on for 4 hours (expected).

Great day though and amazing buzz with the amount of spectators. Personally, never again but I'm very glad I did it. Half's and 10k's I really enjoy so back to them.

In fairness to the comically slow (that'll be me then). They pen you dependant on your proposed time don't they? What did you put down?

As for recovery.. Legs stiff and sore but I can live with that. My big toes have blisters under both nails which is very painful though. Might have to get a sterilised needle out later and release the pressure.

Apologies, Tim. Not looking to belittle anybody's achievements, just a bit frustrated with the organisers is all.

I originally applied with a time of 4 hours a year ago, when I was in decent shape. Over the last year, my fitness has come on leaps and bounds thanks to really targeted training, so much so that my last two half marathons from October and March predicted a finish from anywhere between 3:30 and 3:20. Back in November, I contacted the organisers asking them to change my estimated finish time to 3:30 and supplied them with links to my recent performances, but I received no response. On race day, I was further pissed off because they kept saying over the PA system that runners were not able to promote themselves to faster pens with the message "nothing annoys runners more than slower runners getting in the way". Whilst waiting at the front of my pen, all the runners around me said they had put down estimated times of 4:20 - 4:30, so I was definitely going to be slowed down by at least the two pens ahead of me. The fellow Parkrunner I finished with put down a similar finishing time of 4 hours to me and was placed in the pen behind me!

That's a shame they weren't able to alter your pen but I imagine the party line will be that 'penning' will be organised early on and they wouldn't be able to make adjustments due to the level of enquiries etc...

Shame but I hope you enjoyed the experience. Well done on the finish time. There were loads of interesting races in Europe though so maybe a fast pen entry time on one of those will mean you get to put down a pb.

Either way, no offence taken. For us mortals where half marathon's are the norm, completing the damn thing was an achievement in itself!

Glad there's no offence taken! smile

A running buddy of mine had a similar pen position problem last year and has suggested I run the Portsmouth marathon with him. With only 1,000 places, I guess there's no risk of congestion out on the course!

One of our club runners ended up in blue pen 9

she was aiming for and got 4 hours.

I checked my training my last long run (17 mile) was 24 Feb. and only managed 3 runs of up to 13 miles and 1 half marathon between so pleased with my time.
