Anyone go clay shooting?

I've always been fond of target shooting. Used to love it when i was younger, but now the requirements are so strict to get your hands on a nice rifle with FAC, it doesnt seem worth the hassle. I suppose this is what the government wants.
I've been looking at shotguns, having never fired one before, and they are very pretty and it looks good fun, going out and shooting some clays.
Anyone here do it? How much does it cost, do you need to be a member of a gun club to get your own shotgun cert (like an fac - you need to be a member for 3 months minimum) and how strict are police forces on giving out an SG certificate? I know for a FAC they come and inspect your home, cabinet etc, do they do this with shotguns?
If anyone is a member of a club, do you go down on your own every weekend for a bit of practice or do you have to go on organised shoots/days?

I am a regular clay shooter. I belong to a club but also belong to a local syndicate. We basically pay small subs to buy traps etc and shoot on a mates land.
Police do visit your home to check your cabinet and you answer some questions to ensure that you are sane etc.
Costs vary, but, my club's annual membership is £30 I think. Cartridges are circa £5.50 per box of 25.
I would suggest that you do join a club and get some tuition from the club coach. Like many sports bad habits are more difficult to correct later on. Better to learnt the right way from the start.
Depending on where you are, I might be able to suggest some local clubs for you.
