Anyone here shoot?

My wife is involved in shooting (game) and stalking. She has a pair of ear plugs but is looking for a better pair (not ear defenders).

Can anyone recommend a good set of ear plugs please?

I have a great set, they are open and you can talk to people with them in no problem, but if a bang goes off it blocks your ear, great things. I can't remember the name of them though, will have a search.

I've got a pair of the sonic ones but find them uncomfortable so just use the foam ones. smile

EFA: Shooters Aid ones.

you can pay silly money for shooting specific kit. I have a pair that is for garage use. kicks in at anything over 85decibels. superb bit of kit and internally identical to my mate's Bisley branded pair. Mine were 50 quid cheaper though. smile

I have the same - equally I have no idea what they are called. Sorry.

You won't find better than the CENS Proflex2. £600 is a lot of dough though. Everyone I've talked to who wears them can't recommend them highly enough, they'll be the next piece of shooting kit I buy. There are a few places you can get 10% off if there are a few of you buying them together (I think it was 5 units)

At the moment I have the passive silicon moulds - the same as the CENS proflex but without the electronics. They are awesomely comfortable and don't effect my gun mount like most 'over-ear defenders'. They are a bit too good though and I struggle to hear people talking between rounds. You can get various reactive valves for them as an alternative - but you'll probably end up buying the electronic ones in the end!

Yes these are the danglies but I cant have anything in my ear so Peltor Sportac or MSA Sordin are my current sets.

£600
yikes

It doesn't matter how much you spend, you won't get better than ~34dB reduction. That's because even when your ear canals are completely blocked you still hear through your skull.

Unless I suppose:

+

And you'll still have most of the £600.

£600!

Thanks for the replies. I quite like the £15 ones wink

Really, I'm sure the £600 ones are better than the £15 ones, but are they 40 times better......?

Highly recommended -

http://www.noisebreaker.com/hearing-protection-for...

Have had a pair for 5 yrs and really recommend them. Cost effective as well. It does depend to a degree what type of shooting you are undertaking and the frequency, but going very cheap can't possibly be the best option for your hearing in either the long or short term?

Oh, very well, I'll post something more sensible.

Pretty much everything you need to know about ear protection can be found here:
http://www.howardleight.com/hearing-protection/art...

As mentioned, you won't do better than 34 to 37dB no matter how much you spend.
