Perhaps this should be in the sport section, but Im talking from a spectator point of view.

Never taken an interest, but having read a couple of Dick Francis's over christmas I'm tempted to go and watch out of curiosity.

Obviously I appreciate my chances of foiling an international blackmail gang are remote. But if you don't want to bet can it be an interesting day out, or just a bit pointless?

Horse racing is far better live than on the telly. But you really need to have a bet, if only a couple of quid, to make it exciting.

Nothing to beat a day at the races,a chance to dress up,drink and eat lots and have a bet if you want to.
Go to a decent meeting at a bigger course for the first time i think.

You have joined the sport just after 2 of the greatest if not arguably the 2 greatest race horses of all time have retired in Frankel on the flat and Kauto Star over the jumps.

You have the Gold Cup and Cheltenham in the Spring. If you want to understand and get a feel for the whole sport then Cheltenham and the Gold Cup it is.

Pst...jumps piss all the flat.

Where are you based (county)? Can suggest a decent course for you then...

I see horse racing as an opportunity for a bit of a piss up.

As an interesting pastime, it's almost as dire as tennis, and tennis is as dire as it gets...

I really enjoy my horse racing. I go whenever I can. I prefer the jumps but living not too far away from Newmarket also go there sometimes. I've owned three racehorses now over the years. This is my current one, well I've a half share in him and he runs in my colours. Hasn't done much yet but he's never run on ground he really likes. He needs soft going so hoping he shows a bit more in the next few weeks.

South Bucks.

I did go to see dog racing once, (works outing). We were at the track a few hours and there were I think 8 races, so that was 4 minutes of action. I was bored out of my mind.

Well nearest courses are Windsor or Ascot, Windsor is ok if you want a cheap day/evening out, but facilities there are a bit sparse, and no matter how hot a day it is, theres always a cold breeze from the river there.

Ascot on the other hand is fantastic!

Very sad to see Cheltenham hope Darlan suffer a fatal fall whilst jumping the last hurdle in a listed trials race at Doncaster today, with AP Mc Coy on board he looked to have the race won when drawn alongside to challenge Rock on Ruby. Thoughts go out to the owners, AP and all the team at Nick Hendersons yard.
