This thread might be a flop, but I think from a few years ago we had an NHL thread on here and there was a few active members of it.

Anyway, with the NHL in a lockout nothing much is happening. The AHL is doing a good job of filling in for them, ESPN America is showing a few games a week of that league.

Anyone here support a UK team? My team is Guildford Flames, currently 2nd in the EPL (2nd tier of UK hockey). How is your UK team doing?

Follow the Bison biggrin

Also the Devils but do not bother going to watch them anymore due to the cost of getting there, price of tickets and the high possibility of a poor game which irked me somewhat last year.

But enjoy watching the Bison (and Buffalo) smile

I went to see the Syracuse Crunch when I was living in Suracuse. Never watched a game before, and had no idea what was going on. Never saw a puck all night. Still not convinced its not all an act. One thing that was weird was that they had breaks in the game when they had commercials on the TV feed, which was weird. Me and my mate, (also an Englishman), remained seated after the 3rd period for the 4th. There wasn't one.

MK Lightning fan here, witnessed us hussle Slough 5-4 last night with lots of scraps, goals and tension last night.

I am gutted about the lockout as I am off to LA and surrounding areas on New Years Eve for a fortnight so wont see any games frown Really wanted to go see the Ducks or Kings in action.

No AHL teams locally either.

Have you thought of watching some ECHL games? There are a few teams in Cali but Long Beach Ice Dogs are closest to LA (approx 17miles)

Might be worth a look smile

We had Bracknell last night.. Definitely one of the most physical games I've seen us play this season so far, was brilliant. No fights though frown

2-2 at the end of the 3rd.. No goals in OT.. Penalies..

3-1 on Penalties. Phew!

With Huppe and Longstaff upfront you will never struggle in shootouts.

Still dont understand why you pay Andrew Sharp though...

Bracknell have become pretty tough this year, the league is the closest it has been for some time.

wavey Another Guildford Flames supporter here.
It's good to be on a 10 game winning streak.

Been to see the Steelers play a few times this season - not a huge fan but get tickets cheap through work as we're a sponser and its a decent enough nights entertainment.

I still don't fully understand it though.

True! Both very good at what they need to do. Mark Lee in goal also, imo the best goal tender of the EPL.

I partly agree about Sharp, when hes in an aggressive mood he can put the other team off of going in for big hits as they'll end up in a punch up. He is getting better though.

Do you go often? smile

Yep! Going well at the moment, 4 away wins in a row is good going too!

Lee is good but I would still keep Mettam over him.

Best keeper in the EPL? Steve Lyle surely? Way to good to be in the EPL, Bison must of really raided the coin jar for him.

If you go and watch it more often, it gets alot easier to understand.

Is anyone else confused by this 2 ref/2 linesmen thing? Was confusing on Saturday, kept having to get together for a chat and decide what was going on etc. They still missed blatant calls; didn't see any benefit of it.

I stand at the home end at the Spectrum, his saves are incredible.. I guess I am slightly bias though!

I've heard a reference to Bison about money quite a few times, are they a reasonably well off team?

I do Season Ticket Holder back row D block in the right hand corner.. (not one of the drummers about 15 seats away from them) try to get to every home game. however with the my new arrival haven't been doing much recently.

Ah excellent. I'm not a Season Ticket holder, will do next year though!

I always stand behind the home goal, I've tried sitting all over the place but in the end prefer standing against the glass.

We tried D-Block.. Got too much with the constant drumming in your ear! hehe

UK wise my nearest team is coventry, been to see them a few times but not really a fan. A few years ago I followed the NHL as best I could. Went to see the Red Wings at the Joe in the 90's. It was a the second of a home/home series with Toronto. I couldn't wait to see the 2nd game in Detroit mainly to see Bob Probert cause mayhem but he got suspended after the first game! Most unlike him! :-)
Also saw Rangers v Devils at the MSG mid 90s. That was entertaining as NJ won and the home crowd got pretty ugly...must of been a fun trip home back to jersey for the away fans.

Bison and money? They are run by Planet Ice laugh

I did hear that the budget is quite low, but not sure if things have changed as the team is superb compared to last season smile

I'll let you know next time I go to the library, sorry Spectrum. wink

Bison seem to have come into some money this season by signing Lyle, Owen but also with Sheppard coaching it's a huge plus for them.

The biggest money team in the EPL though is your very own Flames. You have imports running out your ears and Longstaff belongs in the Elite.
