Hi All

Just looking for a bit of help.

Me and my step dad went shooting at kelbrook at weekend and both really enjoyed it, we are looking at becoming members of the club mor elocal to us in worsley. We have been told we will need a licence to become a member but neither of us really wants to keep guns in the house and would hire them from the shooting club.

Can someone advise is we can still get a licence to just shoot rather than to keep guns?

Thanks

Yes. A license permits you to be in possession of and to own a shotgun (or more than one of course) there is no obligation to actually own one. It would make perfect sense to apply for a license on the basis you describe.

I imagine the club want you to be a license holder so they can hand over a gun in the knowledge that you are legally entitled to be in possession. Otherwise you would need to be accompanied by a license holder at all times.

you can't just borrow guns and walk off without a license holder with you, and most grounds will only allow that license holder to be a member of staff.

it makes perfect sense for you to pay the £50 and go through the process, then when you get hooked and want your own gun it's easy

You'll need a gun safe to get a licence (you might be alright with a gun clamp instead but I don't know of anyone who uses one).

Most FO's now insist on a gun safe bolted to the house structure in a room out of view. So your looking at 80 odd quid for the safe, and 50 for the licence.

expensive hobby this shooting malarky

If you aren't planning to keep a gun at home, you will not need a safe. My license was first issued on that basis.

Same here, was granted the licence before purchasing a gun, and did not have a gun safe at the time.
Once I bought a gun, the FO came and inspected the gun safe (bolted to a wall, as you say)
