Our local village football club shares playing field with the cricket team, We have been left some land adjacent to our current field and are in the process of extending the sports facilities. There is always some tension between the Footballing community and the Cricket community, so with the expansion of the playing field we thought it would be nice to get all factions together to plan out who wants what and where to place the pitches.

The Cricket lot quickly came up with a sum for relocating the cricket wicket of £50K which the football lot thought extortionate. The cost of the clearing, leveling, draining and re-seeding the newly acquired land was less than that. So I thought I would ask anyone out here in PH land that is involved in Cricket, how much it would cost to relocate a cricket square/wicket. This I presume requires digging out, preparation of the ground and reseeding it, almost like a putting green I presume.

Any info would be appreciated as the football and cricket guys are beginning to do my head in over who has what and who goes where on our new grounds facility

Surely unless the current wicket has been made in those big drop and play "trays" that the big pro grounds use, I'd have thought it was almost impossible to dig up the square and just drop it in a new location?

Its also getting pretty late in the day to start preparing a new square for a 2013 season. If its at all feasible with the footballists, take the next year/18 months to prepare a brand new wicket in the new location ready for the 2014 season, whilst playing on the current one for next season.

That, I think is the plan. The new area has been re-seeded but is going to be at least 18 months before anything can play on there, football or cricket. The question about relocation of the wicket was raised as the various factions want to plan where their respective pitches are going to be. The footballers want 2 full size pitches (approx 90m x 65m) and the cricketers want to get a decent boundary area. Then there is training pitches for youth football re-positioning of cricket practice nets and positioning of floodlights.
What they don't want is the cricket square right on the football pitch touch line, which is where the current set up is. At present there are 6 football teams using one pitch and 3 Cricket teams using the cricket field.
The Cricketers don't want to move due to their cost of preparing a new wicket and the footballers want the cricketers to move so they can fit in 2 pitches.
Hence the original question of how much it would cost to build and prepare a new wicket

Sounds like its fairly big and organised club!

It may be a bit OTT, but there are a few specialist contractors out there that can advise on layouts/costs etc.

These guys are in Ingatestone, Essex, so not too far to travel to Norfolk to have a look around and offer some possible advice.

It's not that big, just a small village in the middle of Norfolk, but for some reason has a good following in football and cricket, hence the need for expansion of the grounds.

Aside from what Ive said above I cant really offer much more....hopefully club politics wont hinder things too much or lead to a poor compromise, as you'll be hated by both sides ;-)

Best of luck!
