Watchin the WS and would like to know i this situation has ever occured during the history of baseball

Ok a No hitter means a pitcher has not 'allowed' a runner to get to first base.
That i can accept, but my mind tells me the guys have 'hit' the ball, but in baseall parlance a hit only counts if the runner gets to first base.

Now the geeky question

Has a pitcher EVER struck out an entire team without any of the people at bat hitting ( striking ) the ball but the balls thrown include the out of the strike zone balls

And one stage further. Has any pitcher EVER thrown 81 consecutive strikes in one game

A no hitter is when the pitcher doesn't allow the opposition to get a hit. He may "walk" a number of opposition and it still counts as a no hitter.

A perfect game is no hits or walks.

No pitcher has ever struck out every batter of the opposition.

No one has got anywhere near 81 consecutive strikes.

This is the best effort of recent times in the MLB: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/...

Like the piece says, the definitive record isn't really known.
