Golf in the South East
Discussion
It is that time of year again when I need to start looking at venues for 2013 for my Golf Society days. Next year will be our 10th year of running the society, and I am running out of venues that are new.
Majority of members are based in Kent, and South London. We play most golf in Kent, East Sussex, Surrey and Essex. Basically we try to keep it not much further travel than an hour from Maidstone to keep the members happy.
Primarily we play on a weekend, Saturdays preferred, but we can be a bit flexible, and typically when I contact a club they are prepared to bend their rules when they know we will bring 28+ people.
So any ideas for venues most appreciated - budget between £45 and £65 per round.
These are some of the courses we have played in last couple of years (so try not to mention them!):-
Princes
Sweetwoods
Walmer & Kingsdown
Abridge
East Sussex National
London Club
North Foreland
Pyrford
Croham Hurst
Thanks

Westerham just off the M25. Quite a decent track by all accounts.Majority of members are based in Kent, and South London. We play most golf in Kent, East Sussex, Surrey and Essex. Basically we try to keep it not much further travel than an hour from Maidstone to keep the members happy.

Friend was a member at Cherry Lodge near Biggin Hill. Nice little club.

Cheers - we have played both of these as well. Friend was a member at Cherry Lodge near Biggin Hill. Nice little club.
Westerham is a good Summer course - terrible in the winter, and Cherry Lodge we played last year - unfortunately was not well received - was in quite a bad state.
We have 11 events a year - we play 7 "economy" courses, and 4 "premier" courses. I book the Premier ones. Westerham would be a Premier, and Cherry Lodge an Economy. Problem with Westerham is two of our members are members there!

Have you played Royal Cinque Ports ? Don't know about Saturday's but I know they allow visitors on Sunday afternoons.
Superb course with a bd hard back nine.
Would love to get on here - problem is that they only allow you (or certainly did) to play in two balls. We have some people on our society you would not want to get paired up with for 4 hours!Superb course with a bd hard back nine.

If you have a couple of Westerham member, then I guess you've also played their other courses in the vicinity?
If you do go as far as Essex, then Crondon Park has a nice course, 18th is 800 yards or something stupid off the back tees!

Shame about Cherry Wood, I last played about there 4 years ago and quite liked it.

I was looking at Crondon park earlier. Will check it out further. If you have a couple of Westerham member, then I guess you've also played their other courses in the vicinity?

Hi Chris have you heard of or considered the shire in Barnet it's a bit further than you've been travelling but it's well worth it I'm a member there, it has 12 holes where water comes into play a real tough test and it's seves only designed British course, look it up on the Internet and read the reviews and let me know what you think ?

I played the Shire last year - and had 42 points, so liked it a lot! I think it is a good fun course, 6 x Par 3's, 6 x Par 4's and 6 x Par 5's from memory. Yet you never play a hole with the same Par consecutively.I have already written to them to ask for a price.
My only concern is the speed of a society on there, as it starts with a Par 3, it can take a while to get everyone going.

Would you be interested in doing a Ryder cup style of competition we have about 28 in our swindle who play on Saturday mornings could do a home and away . What do you think it would be cheaper on the green fee !!!
Interesting!! Drop me a PM. My home course is probably not really a match for your course (http://www.kingshillgolf.co.uk/) - Or check out our website for our society details - www.letournoi.co.uk

Dale hill, Ticehurst
Hever Castle, no prizes for guessing
Knowle park, Sevenoaks
Mote park pitch `n putt, very local
All of the above (with exception of Mote Park - don't allow on the weekends). Hever does - but it is 9 holes on the 9 hole course, and then one of the 18 hole loops. Not really ideal!Hever Castle, no prizes for guessing

Try Austin Lodge not far from Brands Hatch.
Great tucked away course and a relaxed little gem. Get a buggy!
I know this one very well - not a bad cheapy course, but we have done it a number of times. Looking for something better than this.Great tucked away course and a relaxed little gem. Get a buggy!
So far we have the following booked:-
Piltdown
Silvermere
Just need one more Saturday course, and can then book my final course for a Friday (probably Shirley Park).
Thanks
I thought Traditions in Pyrford was a lovely course. Have a look http://www.traditionsgolf.co.uk/
