I have a home gym (Just weights and boxing equipment) and currently run on the road/park. However my knees are starting to creak plus bad weather always puts me off. Ideally I want a Concept 2 rower but are there any cheaper alternatives?

Also can anyone recommend an exercise bike, my colleague has recommended the Nordic Track C7ZL which can be had 2nd hand for under 200. Any other recommendations?

Also willing to consider 2nd hand on the rower. EBay etc.

Thanks

Hoofy

Can only answer re a gym bike - don't get a cheap one! I got a recumbent for about £150 and it's one of the best exercise kits I've bought. I used to use it a lot more (100k a week) but nowadays, whilst I use it less, I still go back to it when I'm too dead for proper training to get the old cardio-vascular system working.

Which bike do you have?

Are they mains powered, mainly as I have no mains sockets in my basement!

Water Rowers are better than you would think....they also store upright very easily and are much quieter than a Concept 2 which at home can be a bonus.

I'd keep an eye on eBay. They sell them in JL is you want to have a look at them.

A Carl Lewis recumbent. The calculation module runs on 4xAAs. It cost me about £150 at the time and is the only thing I've paid full price for and not regretted buying.

I had a water rower for a couple of years, beautiful piece of kit, very quiet and smooth… but unless your room is well ventilated you'll get seriously warm! An advantage of the fan models is the breeze they kick out can keep you cool… something to bear in mind ;-)
