nice to get a US Open thread going as opposed to the Murray thread so i will give you a bump

yes great win for Robson but slightly sad to see Clijsters go out so early, am a big fan and a shame she has retired, although it was a good match with an up and coming player (pass the mantle on so to speak) which I think Kim will eventually be ok with, better that then some journeyman

seems like Robson is starting to settle, has probably stopped growing etc so should see her star rise in the next few years, lots of potential and only 18

nothing else major to report yet

Well, that's Tsonga gone! He didn't play well and in truth was well beaten today; however, good news for Murray as that's a potentially tricky opponent out of his part of the draw.......

ARod has retired, nooooooooooooooooo!!!! I now feel very old!

Personally will miss him, had the pleasure of watching him up close at his peak many times, that serve was incredible and he was a good guy, will also miss the interviews. Hope he comes back, in time, as a commentator as I think he would be great

was never quite the same after '09 Wimby

Robson through with a good win. Very impressive. More impressive was her attitude. None of the usual "I can't believe I won etc" you get from the one-hit wonders. Clearly she's been talking with and learning from Andy as he was always very confident of his abilities and didn't shy away from accepting big wins as he was coming up. You have to believe you have the game to win otherwise you'll forever be on the outside looking in. Li somewhat bitter in the press conference, I get the feeling she sometimes expects to win on her ranking alone. Not this time love.

I'll be routing for Roddick to quickly dispatch of Tomic, that would be a miserable note to end a solid and often frustrating career on. Didn't see where he was in the draw but I am hoping he will just let it all hang out with the crowd behind him. Worth a look at the odds? Can't trust his back/shoulders to hold out all the way to the trophy to be honest but.. perhaps worth a punt as this is his last event so he doesn't need to worry about the rest of the season. It would be a huge win if he emulated Sampras and finished where he started. The will to win and all that, I've seen stranger things happen..

ETA: May the gods bless the umpire on Court 13. No doubt hoping Zarah Razafimahatratra doesn't win a single game so she doesn't have to deal with pronouncing that almighty surname biggrin
