Water boarding sports - shorts OVER wetsuit???

tried a bit of wakeboarding today and noticed all the experts (12 yr olds doing tricks!) wera board shorts OVER their wetsuit????? Looking online it seems everyone does apart from surfers.

errrr....isnt it a daft look? seems like the kids do it to look cool and the oldies do it because the average male in a rubber suit is grim viewing.

Got to admit....as a powerfull PH director I felt very Navy Seal in my wetsuit and wet shortless!

Sp kite/wake boarders....shorts on the outside? WTF?

I tried a spot of wake boarding last October (shoulder still hurts to prove it...) only the kids and the guys who thought they were awesomes wore shorts over their suit, the ones who genuinely were rippers just wore boardies (in October!!) or just a wetsuit.

Apparently it used to be cool to wear shorts over them, but that time has since passed so I was reliably informed by one of the instructors.

we used to wear shorts over the top of the wetsuits when dinghy sailing to protect the wetsuit (save wearing the arse out) and so that you had pockets to put stuff in.

don't do that cold water sailing malarky any more so no need for the wetsuit!
