Hi all, just wondering if there's anyone else on here that does sitting volleyball?
I only started in march but am really loving it, luckily I have a pretty high level of fitness as it's quite demanding on upper body and core strength.
I'm a below knee amputee and do mountain biking and a lot of gym work but this is the first time I've tried a team sport and can't get enough smile

No problem.

Really well, I clip in on the tin leg side to stop it popping off and really that's about all you'd need to do to get going.
It's taken a while to get my fitness back as I had my ankle replaced in Jan 2011 but am now doing 13 miles hard cross country, still a way to go to be back to pre ankle probs fitness but getting there smile
Here's yesterdays ride, it was a bit slow as I was doing some trail finding and clearance.

I did write an article a while back about cycling for amputee's that I really should get around to updating, if you want a copy to read or talk about riding pop me an email rikk@golum.co.uk more than happy to help smile

Ah, so you're a single amputee. I'd assumed both legs from your OP. I was curious to know how that works with both legs off, re: balance etc.

When I was at Uni in the mid 90s there was a lad there who had an earlier version of the carbon blades made famous by Pistorious. His were a mix of ally and carbon and seemed to have a damper built into them. One of the coolest bits of engineering I've ever seen and the speeds he could run at were incredible. What I loved about them was the fact that he also thought the they were cool as fk as he would wear them with pride. They were far better looking to my eyes than some of the similar era poorly colour matched latex versions.

It's what go me into watching the para-Olympics in fact.

You should start a thread in pedal powered about your MTB'ing exploits, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested in reading about them.

I'll start one in Pedalpowered later then, never think anything I'm doing is worth talking about.

A lot depends on what amputations the person has, single below knee is pretty easy to cope with. Single above knee is not to bad unless you want to do much more than tow paths as standing up on the bike is VERY hard, in which case you need a large wallet and a Bartlett Tendon http://leftsideinc.com/
Double below knee would be fine if you kept off the rough stuff, but double above knee I would say is all but impossible due to the expensive and also the problem of needing to use your knee's to get over the dead spot on the pedals at 6/12, also getting going would be a major issue as you'd push off with one leg then need to get the other clipped in by using your arm..
