After the success of the Olympics, a few friends and myself are keen to give handball a try.

However, we are stuggling to find a team anywhere near us. We live in West Norfolk, the closest teams we can find are an hour away (unsurprisingly).

Can anyone advise on how we would go about setting up a club/team. Are there leagues set up we could play in? Would we need to register as a club (like local football teams would have to)?

Any advice would be most welcome on the game, the rules etc

Cheers

Hi, probably best checking out the British handball association website, they have a list of all the rules and have a club finder facility.

I would assume the British Handball Association would be able to give you the information you need. http://www.britishhandball.com/

According to press reports they have had massive interest from the Olympics, so there maybe enough local people to you to look into setting something up at a local sports centre.

Maybe contact the local paper and see if they can run a story, that may then bring forward more local people. Your local sports centre may have had enough enquires that they may already be looking into it.

We have been in touch with the local sports centre but they were less than helpful at the time. They then said they would get back to us but we've heard nothing as of yet.

Cheers for the link. Will have a butchers.

Anyone play or used to play?

It looked like good fun on the TV. Large men and a fairly sensible attitude to 'contact'. My sort of game. ( he says, wishing he was not the wrong side of 50 frown )

yes My MD is mid-sixties and still plays basketball to a pretty good standard. He's not the tallest either, maybe 5'7"?

It's something I've considered after seeing it. My ability to kick a ball is piss poor but I'm pretty good at throwing. What could possibly go wrong.
