Visiting the Olympics - Olympic Park
Discussion
Couldn't see another thread about actually visiting the park, thought I might post some observations / mild gloating
Travelling / Arriving:
Simply put, had no problems at all.
Left plenty of time to travel just to make sure, the first session at the stadium started at 10am so we arrived at St Pancras Intl for the Javelin train at 6:30-7:00am. Was surprised when I only had to wait 10 mins for the train to arrive.
After the journey it only took about 10 more mins to actually get into the park. RAF people were cheery and great
(For photographers: I took a DSLR & 17-85mm and 70-300mm lenses in my bag - no problems. Even saw some people with Canon 100-400s)
Around the park:
Had a superb day
Watched Jess Ennis surge through a record-breaking 100m hurdles and cheered at any mention of a British athlete The atmosphere was amazing
Outside the stadium I didn't bother going into the 'corporate bits' from the sponsors but it was worth a walk around just to see some of the venues - the velodrome was especially great.
No excessive queues in the park, though decided I'd just buy drinks / water rather that queuing to fill up the bottles. Only large queue was to get into the London Olympics store, even then didn't wait more than about 10 mins.
All of the staff were great everyone of them enthusiastic and seemingly aware of the unique opportunity to be involved in such an event. To be honest it really added to the experience
We spent the whole day in the park, so decided to wait until the evening sessions had started before heading to the train. Seemed to work as we didn't wait more than about 5 mins for a Javelin train to arrive - in fact it wasn't even full when we departed.
I'd thoroughly recommend going if you can
