Synchronised swimming. Not really an Olympic sport, is it.

Well, it IS according to the IOC - but it is just dancing in a pool. What next? Ballroom dancing?

How do they justify this crap and yet leave out proper sports like squash, netball, lawn bowls, lacrosse etc.

Pathetic really - notwithstanding the pleasant bodies etc.

Rather like ice dancing in the Winter Olympics. I mean, it's even got 'dancing' in its name.

Well, at top level it is little different to any of the target sports like archery or shooting.

I suppose the question is 'what defines a sport as worthy of Olympians?'.

I tend to agree with you, however it does take an awful lot of doing - and until the IOC say otherwise, I think they deserve recognition for their efforts.

I'm in a good mood today smile

I think ballroom dancing used to be an Olympic sport, back when painting and town planning where also in 'the games'.

You could ask why softball (slow or fast pitch) is no longer listed too. Fabulous to play, fast and exciting to watch and popular world wide.

Just praise the fact there isn't any snooker or darts.

Rejoice!!

Apart from the mincing about that goes on beforehand and the extreme make-up, I see it no differently to rhythmic gymnastics or sychronised diving. It looks incredibly hard to do and can't imaging how much breath-holding they are doing. Fitties too!! biggrin

Dressage is another issue - that could be in the circus apart from the animal rights lot would be up in arms... I know they put in a massive amount of time, training and skill but it's a very odd sport.

Don't kid yourself that synchronised swimming is "just" anything.
I read a while ago about the work that these girls put in, it's amazing.

In some sessions they do the routine / training with ankle and wrist weights on!

Admittedly the marking is subjective but I have a lot of respect for the effort required.
