Are the Olympics seen as a success abroad??
Discussion
Since they were put up as some sort of advert for the UK - are they being seen as a huge success abroad too?
with the uk coverage positively covering the team GB success this was always going to be pro-olympics.
but what do the foriegners make of it? with Aussie not doing as well as they should be do they see the london olympics as a waste?

No i'm just using aussie as an example... Whats the coverage of the olympics been like all over the world basically? With PH being global it'll be nice to hear how the world is seeing london 2012 and not just how the UK see's London 2012
This is from the Huff... though the article was written by a uk based journo.

Is this a sensible question or just Aussie-bashing just for the hell of it? Maybe rephrase the question.
I think the question is perfectly sensible. Local media is very pro the London Olympics (more than just verging on Olympic propaganda). It'd be interesting to hear if the London Olympics are deemed as much of a success internationally as what we're being led to believe.
Well here's the headline and opening paragraph of one foreign news report.

London shops see drop in sales

Yes they are in my little bit of Europe.
Britain is already the no 1 "must see" destination anyway though. Everybody wants to go to Britain, the Olympics has just hyped that up more. Those of us abroad do keep telling you all that Britain is regarded as a must see place,is very well thought of and London with, well, a little bit of awe actually. Just nobody ever listens to us and the UK is just crap apparently.

The UK should use this Olympic momentum to really go gangbusters on tourism. It does seem that there is a willing market for it. We should invest heavily in two or three really great new attractions, using the Olympic experience, and go from there. Turn the UK into a proper holiday destination that doesn't just attract people (as it seems to be doing already) but which also rewards them for coming here. Not just leaning on the Tower of London etc but complementing these traditional attractions with some really world-class new facilities that the UK people would own and directly benefit from, both in ticket revenue and employment.

a waste of time for them perhaps since they're not achieving the success levels post-sydney
maybe what team GB will face 2020+ once the buzz of London 2012 dies down...
is there a lack of interest there or are they still into the whole olympics event?
Australia's performance in 2004 was better in terms of gold medals than it was in Sydney 2000 and a lot better than 1996. 2008 was also better than 1996. I'm not sure of your reasoning as to this years performance being 'post 2000' bearing these facts in mind. maybe what team GB will face 2020+ once the buzz of London 2012 dies down...

I hope it is a blip and they come back because I quite like the Aussies

It's been going ok with not many hitches, false starts or bombings. .
Yes, I can see how a lack of bombings could be seen as a good thing. Have we had any yet (in the athletics)?
