My mother spent two weeks working at the Olympics (she's with the UKBA and she evidently got relocated to the terminals at Heathrow). Just be prepared for lots of bragging over pictures with atheletes and relevent torches

I know volunteers for the railway were trained a long time ago, but they only started working last Thursday.

Depends a lot on what your mother is doing then.

She was working on the customs/immigration desks at Heathrow. Perhaps "at" the Olympics wasn't the correct word, "for" would probably have been better.
