I have a friend who is delighted to have got hold of some olympic tickets - to the kayaking??????!!!!??? (They dont know a kayak from a surfboard)

I get watching sports you are interested in (I tried to get tickets to my fav sport) or watching high profile sports (100m, etc) but why are people so excited to go and watch archery, etc??? Are they now going to go and watch these events normally??? All very odd.

It is bizarre - for the track cycling and athletics anyone could have gone to one of many international meets this year to see the TeamGB (and international) stars in action. It seems the draw of the Olympics is more than the draw of the sport/athletes.

At least it means I can always get tickets to the events I want to see during the year hehe

I guess because they will be able to say 'I was there - at the Olympics'.

(and hope whoever might asks does not then want to know the exact event smile )

I dont get it - I went to see the USA V GB basketball (warm up) game in Manchester last week.....a friend told me yesterday "I'll bet it was good, but we've got tickets to the Olympic matches and that will just blow it away" - They are watching two obscure womens teams play!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????

The only thing more odd.....people getting excited about the beach volleyball because there are "hot" women in it. Just imagine slogging all day through London traffic to sit miles away at the back of the stand to see two, rather masculine, women in (not very revealing) beach wear.......got to Bournemouth would be easier wouldn't it?? Again, if you like beach volleyball (and why not) then great.....but who is watching these things "just because its the olympics"???

Those would be the slightly more colourful dots in the middle?

I saw that and thought: a) wow, looks great (but at X billion, it should do - it's like the great car your neighbour has when he adds yet another debt to his household!) and b) you'd have to be a real fan of the sport to go into London for that!

So they can say they have been, and I cant blame them after how long before they are hosted here again!

As for beach volley ball, if I go and sit on the beach and stare at scantily clad women I'll get beaten up again biggrin

...and you'll be in breach of that restraining order.

I agree, though - there is a lot to be said for 'being there', although we have at least got tickets to something that my children do actually play.

I'm seeing the weightlifting on Sunday - I only applied for them as something to do after watching some swimming sessions and knowing I wouldn't get any tickets for the swimming finals that night. Sod's law, no tickets for the swimming and got the weightlifting.

Maybe that's part of it...seeing something that you wouldn't normally watch. For example, I could have got Olympic football tickets quite easily (a sport I regularly watch on TV and go to the odd game as well) but didn't as I have very little interest in Olympic football; whereas I'm really looking forward to going to the Wheelchair Basketball, which I only ever see on the TV once every four years.

The big screen better be on throughout or else the people at the back will have to grow a third arm to hold the binoculars...

In a word yes, my son competes in canoe slalom, so that's what we're going to see on Sunday...... :-)
