That sort of thing will never happen again. The introduction of qualifying times/distances/standards has seen to that, which is a shame.
I'm pretty sure countries can still send whoever they like irrespective of ability, the larger/competitive countries use qualifying standards to pick the best medal prospects but there is no "olympic standard" that an athlete must acheive before they are eligible to compete.Vieste said:

Also one of my favourite moments, second only to the fat lass on the luge in a Winter Olympics.http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01l22by/Olym...

One of the funniest things I've ever seen is a big fat woman who lost it in the luge and came sliding into the stop area like a big 'ole blubbery elephant seal. I wonder if it's the same thing as you mean? Is it shown on any of the links here?If you want to jump straight to the action, FF to 20mins in on that iPlayer link.

That's the one, she ended up on her face on the toboggan run, with a flap of torn lycra exposing her gigantic butt cheek. I've searched a few times on youtube to no avail. Think it happened before widespread internet video, it's not in that link of the BBC3 program.
I've also searched high and low also but to no avail. Even though really blubbery and clad in lycra there was a kind of rigid quality about her, as if rigor mortis had set in just after she stacked it Vieste said:
