I was being very negative about the Olympics because I didn't think in these economic times we should be spending all that money on a sports day.

However, the closer it gets the more I am coming round to the idea and starting to think I should watch some of it.

What are the best events to watch? Athletics seems popular, and I am drawn to events that Jessica Ennis is competing in. What else?

the grudge match thread i started woud be a good place to start...

the heptathalon will be great as its another grudge match to be honest, Chernova of Russia vs the Nations Sweetheart.... Chernova won the worlds and Ennis will want to win on home soil... It will all come down too the javelin and the shot put...

Thanks. 100M for both men and women certainly seems to be top of the list. Will watch the heptaphalon as well. Having seen this, I think I will give the beach volleyball a miss.

Yes, yes I am. So far I have Jessica Ennis and Victoria Pendleton - there is another British female cyclist who looks nice too.

Do you have any other suggestions? thumbup

The Triathlon is definitely one you want to watch this year. Alistair & Jonathan Brownlee are absolutely dominating, and are favourite for a UK Gold & Silver!! Should be good to watch. Alsitair Brownlee is a beast!

Very good. Perhaps one about the quality of her jerk may also be in order?

There's also the beach volleyball, although watching ladies getting hypothermia in a typical English summer hailstorm is a bit too "rule 34" for me.
