Rugby Union law amendments
Discussion
What are the views on the new 'trail' law amendments. Ball available in a ruck is sensible now you can't punch the opposing forwards and I can see the logic of the the quick throw in. The 90 second law on conversions mignt need to be flexible. But what are the details of the rolling substitutions?

I reckon the 90 seconds will catch a lot of people out.
Bit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk8oC__AkpEGlad of the 5 second rule with rucks, this caterpillar thing or whatever they're calling it is ridiculous to watch.

Thank you!I can understand the need for time limits at the breakdown or rules to improve scrums but the quick thrown ruling is pretty darn weird!
In a nutshell the ball receiving player can bolt his way up the line making 20/40/60 yards, throw it in v quickly and have his forwards ready to support, this is assuming half the defending pack will chase the kick to provide support and the other half will run straight to the line of the kicker to await the quick throw in?
What if the receiving player catches it runs up field to take a quickie and a quickie cant be taken? Do they have to go all the way back down the pitch? Isn't this just going to add 'ball out of play' time to the game?
What if a player clears the ball from within their own try line and puts the ball down to within the oppo's 22 and relieves the pressure, in old rules that would be an excellent kick, now the oppo's player can simply run it back to the kickers 5m line and keep the pressure on?????
I'm confused
What was wrong with the old quick throw rule? This is just going to make the kicking game look like a player relay!!!

Disco, thank you for having the patience to write what I wanted to say but didnt have time to. I completely agree with you on this and think its a stupid rule change that really did not need changing. Its just going to 'potentially' make a mockery of someone at some point. Quick throws will be forced in order to retain the advantage in the above circs. Throw to a pod and seal off (within the laws) and you gain yourself 50 meters.
When will a lineout be formed now?
It won't be in the interest of the receiving team to have a lineout they'll want the ball thrown in as far up the field as possible.
As an occasional winger for a pub side I can imgine my new role is ball fetcher. Run back, pick the ball up, run up and throw in.
