Thanks for that, great viewing.

For elegance, I'll go for Adam Scott and Trevor Immelman. For precision, I can't see past Luke Donald and Ernie Els.

Honourable mention to Geoff Ogilvy's finish position.

Sadly, two of my favourite swings of them all, Nick Faldo and Fred Couples weren't there.

Boring perfect Faldo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6cvuiKfyLM&fea...

and The Only Cool Golfer Ever - The Man Freddie Couples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF-0U9itc-0&fea...

And have a look at this for loose and natural: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFmwlMST0gg&fea...

Id take The Big Easy's swing out of any of those!

Just wish he'd won a couple more majors to cement a decent legacy.

Wonderful isn't it? Not available to most golfers (like me) as they simply don't have the strength in the hands and forearms to dominate the club the way he does.

I have to work with the weight of the club, he can just usher it around however he wants. So completely in balance and control. His golf club to him is like a badminton raquet is to me.

Its the lovely late hit into the ball that generates much of the easy looking power in Ernies swing, and its something I was being taught to try and achieve when I was having many lessons back in my late teens and early 20's.

Just taking the two pics below, both on the down swing, in the first pic he still has nearly all of the wrist "set" from the back swing, but his hands are what, 12 inches from the impact zone (?) and you can see just how far the clubhead has to travel in the same time period!! As you say he can hold that angle for as long as he can, mainly from forearm strength.

Comparing Ernies wrist/club angle for the same club positions for a couple of players of the same "vintage" as Ernie, in Robert Allenby and Vijay Singh, you can see a very similar position for Vijay, when the clubs themselves are just about parallel to the floor, but Allenby has already lost some of that angle and relied more on what Leadbetter called "flash" speed though impact. Allenby still has good driving stats, but has never averaged over 300.

Looking back in the stats archive, way back in 1990 Ernie averaged 304 yards per drive on the US PGA (albeit over a very small number of drives) and he averaged over 300 again in 2003, both Ernie and Vijay were always high in driving stats when they were on form and Vijay is still managing an average of 293yds at 49 years old!

Was surprised to see that average US PGA driving lengths haven't really increased much since 2003, but I guess players are using more 3 woods/rescue clubs for control but still getting 260+.

Will have a look at that on the weekend.

Out of the current players I think Louis Oosthuizen has the nicest looking swing.

Yes, lovely. Especially from impact to finish. Very polished indeed.
