As an Englsih supporter, would you rather hammer the Welsh, in Cardiff, 53-16

or

Scrape a penalty strewn drawn out win against the Australians, down-under, 12-9?

Same applies to those of you of foriegn persuasion - a drubbing of your neighbours, or a narrow victory against the might of the Southern hemisphere teams.....

Hammer the Welsh....but I'd take a penalty strewn grind against the Bok's or the AB's over that.

aussies every time

Cringe when there's a big scoreline differential (probably because its happened to me on a couple of notable occasions), and especially when its ne of our neigbours who i generally wants to see do well.

Nothing beats a very narrow, hard-fought and well played game against wales. Even if we lose i still enjoy the game!

A win against the Welsh is ten a penny.

I'd always support Wales against anyone except England, and would rather see us win an entertaining game against them than getting too hung up on the scoreline.

Scotland, on the other hand, I'd happily see beaten by anyone at any margin. They're the only nation whose fans seem to bring a nasty edge to their rivalry when they come to Twickenham.

In fact, having had a good laugh at Twickenham with supporters from pretty much every other major rugby nation, I wouldn't particularly wish a crushing defeat on any of them. Although being surrounded by Saffas when they lost 53-3 was quite good fun! hehe

See, I think of the Welsh supporters as being, (not sore losers, they're used to it), ungracious in victory.

They are great supporters, don't get me wrong - but they, along with the Aussies, seem to really 'rub it in', especially when beating England.

At the moment, I'd be delighted with the win against the Welsh. A win against Australia is always special, but thrashing Wales in such a fashion today would make me very happy indeed. Arguably they are the best NH team, but it's becoming a bit boring now and I feel England isn't that far behind them, given on the most recent showing, there was a small handful of points between the two teams and a Grand Slam. I'd really like to see how Wales do in Australia in the next few weeks too, would make some interesting conversations in comparison to how England do in SA.

ON the whole though, I have found when teams become successful (and regualarly beat England) there are always a certain type of supporter who like to rub it in. There are then also certain supporters who will always hate England (I blame Guscott, Moore and Carling for this!), and there are also supporters who love rugby for it is and we all have a great knees up at 6 Nations or World Cup time. Usually there are enough of this latter group around to outweigh the former two so keeps me happy enough!

And above all this, one day I will get to go on a Lions tour - when you often see something very special happen with a joint nation team and fans...

Am I the only person who just doesn't get excited by the Lions?

I'll watch the games, and I'll want them to win, but I just don't feel any emotion about a British & Irish team. It's a bit like the Ryder Cup. I quite enjoy watching the Yanks get beaten, but I couldn't care less that it's a European team doing it.

Given the choice, I'd take an England game over a Lions game any day.

Yes.
Does that mean I'm the only person who feels a lot more English (or Welsh or Scottish as applicable) than British?

None I am with you Kermit. It isn;t about disliking the Scots or the Welsh it is just about enjoying being English ( hard to say that without coming across in a bad light).

That's one of the thing I love about rugby, you can be English, support them openly and not make others think you are a racist thug.

And Irish wink

I think for many players and fans winning a Lions tour certainly ranks alongside a six nations grand slam and for a lot higher....it's only eclipsed by the World Cup in my book. It's a throwback to the amateur era but it's perhaps even harder for a scratch side to win on a once off tour with modern teams being so well organised and drilled over the course of a few seasons. A Lions tour win is probably the pinnacle for those players that have achieved it....with the exception on England's 2203 RWC side

Personally for me I absolutely love the Lions and everything it stands for, it's provided some of my greatest Rugby memories....Gibbs v Du Rant, Guscott's drop goal, Campos' pass biggrin etc and you only have to look at video's and read about the 70's Lions tours and what it means to the players to get a feeling for it.
