After seeing the Cotto fight, in which my opinion he outclassed him, and taking his amazing record into account. where do you think he stands in the list of top fighters ever to grace the sport? if the Pacquiao fight goes ahead and floyd beats him, do you think that would be enough to surpass the great Ali?

I understand his personality is a bit hit/miss with some people, but you have to admire his confidence, and he can sure match it up with his ability. During the Ali days was he viewed with the same cockyness as floyd is? in years to come will we look back on floyds actions in the same vain we look back on Ali's?

Ive watched the 24/7 Mayweather v Cotto programs and have really grown to like him. Link for episode 1 is below if youd like to check it out. i really enjoyed them.

I wondered the same, if you look at his record then fighting Manny probably wouldn't be as big as his fight against De La Hoya. Who he moved up in weight to defeat in his prime. I like the guy and his attitude at least gets people talking about boxing.

In terms of all time greats I think perhaps 10 years after he finishes people will start to realise how good he was. In this era I beleive on Roy Jones Jr can touch him.

He is top class but his opponents although good have been nowhere near the same calibre as Ali or either of the sugar rays. He has been known to duck out of fights and only fight people who are on the decline.

The reason why fighters from back in the day are held in high esteem is because they taught anyone and everyone whereas there is way too much picking and choosing going on these days.

Agree completely with the above. Just look at all the crap that went on with Haye/Vitali/Wlad, just constant excuses and finger pointing as to why the fights can't happen.

To be the best you've got to beat the best

he'll go down as a great fighter but he is not yet on anywhere near the level of an ali, leonard or pep.he hasn't fought consisitently or frequently enough and the fighters he has beaten (apart from the corrales fight) have always had issues to deal with;wether that be punchers being forced to wear bigger gloves, movers forced to fight in smaller rings or being made to fight at an unnatural weight in an unreasonable time frame(see juan manuel marquez jumping 2 weight divisions in a matter of weekss for his shot)

he seems to have found a way of navigating the path of least resistance through the weight divisions over the years but hey, i've gone from hating the guy to being appreciative of his sublime skills and he has shown more willingness to engage over recent years(cotto being a prime example of him finally overcoming a bit of adversity) whereas the boxing public at large earlier on in his career were down on him because he was obviously such a talented guy but certainly seemed to have a bit of a yellow streak in terms of fighting "scared" and handpicking opponents.

overall, he'll go down in history but i'm not sure he's yey ready to be placed in the top tier with the ali's and company.......but time will tell.he's got a few years left yet due to him not being at all shopworn and at 34 is certainly still a very fresh fighter

I don't want to come across like a bh, but he's not a particularly likeable charachter or role model is he? I think this will taint history's memory of him, I imagine the Pacman will be better remembered because of his humility and apparent common touch.

Buncey's podcast has a interview with a chap who spent some of last week in close quarters to Mayweather.

i cant see what that's got to do with a boxing great. mayweather is up there imho but agree that his opponents haven't been 'legendary' either.

Question then, Manny being the obvious one, who else should he face in order for him to go down in the history books?

Ive also heard on the net on a Khan fight later on in the year if Manny doesn't agree to his terms. that will be a mis-match surely? better fighters out there who deserve a shot more then Khan isn't there?
